My name is Tiffany Alexander. I live in the Sacramento Valley. I recently graduated from Cosumnes River College in Sacramento with an A.S. Degree in Computer Networking. I also completed the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) certification in August, while still attending college. I am considering becoming an MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer).
I began using computers at the age of 7, and even learned some BASIC programming at that age. I absorbed all I could on my own until I reached high school. I took some computer programming classes and learned many basic computer skills. While in high school, I managed to learn much from manuals and hands-on experience with friends' and neighbors' computers. Soon, everyone was asking me for help. That was when I decided to make a career in computer science.
I loved learing about computers and solving challenging problems. I would not give up on a problem, even if it meant hours poring over heavy manuals and calling friends for help. This quality has persisted down to this day. I prefer to look at problems as opportunities--opportunities to learn something new. And I always love to learn.
That is the main reason why I took the position at Cosumnes River College. There were many programs and services used in the Computer Lab that I needed experience with. I learned more in that lab than I did in all the classes I took in my two and a half years in college. I learned how to be patient with users and how to train and guide them in performing their tasks. I became adept at teaching and not just telling. At times, I was the only one around to help with network cabling problems or to connect printers to the network. I managed to take care of several tasks at one time. I even dealt with irate students. I discovered and set a trap for hackers (crackers) working out of the college's lab. They were caught. I also implemented a program to stop students from installing unlicensed software.
In the Network Administration classes for Windows NT, I received the highest marks of all sections of the course. I took classes in public speaking and in preparing presentations. I studied on my own for the Microsoft Certified Professional exams, even setting up my own network at home. I have begun learning more about hardware and have considered attempting the A+ certification in the future.
