You're standing at the checkout,
The lineup is quite long,
Your heart beats fast,
You're filled with fear,
You wonder what is wrong.
We know...don't we?

You're shopping at the market,
You suddenly feel sick,
The lights are blurred,
Things seem unreal,
You must get out...and quick...and
You wonder what is wrong,
We know...don't we?

You're cooking dinner for your kids,
When dizziness assails you,
You grab a chair,
You hold on tight,
You wonder just what ails you,
We know...don't we?

You visit your physician,
You tell him how you feel,
He gives you medication,
Says your fears are all unreal.
But you know they're real,
And...we know too...don't we?

Days and weeks and months go by,
And you feel just the same,
This fear that keeps you housebound,
It surely has a name,
It does...and we know it...don't we?

It's called...AGORAPHOBIA
A living hell on earth,
It makes you despair, it tries your soul,
It takes away all mirth.

It causes you great mental stress,
And makes you fear each day,
The trembling hands, the 'jelly legs',
That just won't go away.

You've also been to doctors,
Where we have pled our case,
But we found out, just as you will,
That your fears you have to face.

We had to face the panic,
To get out there and fight.
To function as we knew we could,
To fight with all our might.

Those 'jelly legs' did carry us,
The blurriness did clear,
The palpitations didn't harm us,
Our breath didn't disappear.

The dizziness...it did abate,
Things didn't look so hazy,
We didn't faint, we didn't die,
We knew that we weren't crazy.

But if you stay inside your home,
Afraid to venture out,
Those fears will add and multiply,
Of that there is no doubt.

Now you don't want to live that way,
You know you deserve much more,
So gather up your courage,
Take one step outside your door.

It won't be easy, we know that,
At times you will despair,
You'll cry and rage and curse the day,
Those symptoms did appear.

But once you face up to it,
The rewards will be so great,
That you'll want to keep on trying,
And your fears...they will abate.

And once more you'll feel human,
And you'll hold your head up high,
And face the world,
With shoulders straight,
Agoraphobia...GOODBYE
