We see that you are ready to begin the journey. There is so much more we would like to tell you, but we know that you must be quickly on your way. And although our desire is to go with you, we must remain here and make preparations for others who may follow.

Ahead of you lie two paths, one heading north and another heading south. Both of them rise from where you stand. Both are dangerous. Both head in the direction of the Peak.

There is no way you can know which of the two paths is "better." The path you choose is simply the path you choose. And as you will soon learn about all of the decisions you make in this world, there is no way to control the outcome of your choice.

If you would like some advice, we suggest you take the southern path. It is rugged and hard, but there are many people living in that direction who can guide you. Some of them have made great conquests; others have established cities. You may meet someone along the southern path who knows the way to the Peak.

Before you leave, we offer one warning: whichever path you travel, the Epidemic will be near at hand. Avoid it. Avoid death for as long as you can. And may luck be your constant companion.
