Much thanks must go to the Detector Manufacturers and the many dealers who supported the hunt. Too often they do not receive the credit they so richly deserve for making any treasure hunt a success.

The Waterloo Silver Anniversary Treasure Hunt was held on the University Campus in Waterloo, Ontario. It was slightly different than the usual treasure hunt as it was held in conjunction with the CCFMS Gem and Mineral Show. The theme of the hunt and show was silver. Treasure hunters were exposed to an extensive display of silver in its various forms and the methods used to discover, refine and work it. A continuous selection of films, workshops and displays filled any spare time available. For those wives and relatives not interested in what the show had to offer, there were bus trips to the Waterloo Farmers Market and the Mennonite community of St. Jacobs.
Despite the rain, eager TH'ers searched for coins and tokens redeemable for silver bars, coins, nuggets and ore. Metal Detectors, subscriptions to Western & Eastern Treasures and World Of Treasures, books and many other items completed the list of prizes.
A novice hunt was held to introduce non-TH'ers into the hobby. This paired participating TH'ers with people who had never detected before. The TH'er taught the novice how to detect, pinpoint and retrieve a coin in a pre-hunt period. During the hunt proper, the teacher was not allowed to touch the detector or any tool. They could only help verbally. Several wives expressed an interest in getting their own detector after this hunt.
