Evgeny MITTA
OBJECT FOR MEDITATION
The 'new fear' became a significant part of our life. Like a 'new Russian' it appeared from the mysteries of life; and it seems this fear has always been. Though it hasn't. The streets of the city where I walked at my teenage, now hide fear in every gateway. Violence goes through pavement concrete shooting like grass.
Children are afraid of sexual maniacs. Elders are afraid of uncertain future. Adults feel fear for the fate of their children, their work and their country. Russians are afraid of Chechens. Jews are afraid of Communists. Bankers are afraid of killers. Girls are afraid of rapers. Military are afraid of journalists. Journalists are afraid of censorship. Everybody's afraid of unemployment, cold, civil war, poisonous food, dirty water, polluted air.
Artists' life is so bad they fear nothing.
All that has become a norm of life. A legitimate condition for everyday existence. Fear doesn't cease behind the metal door with American lock. Fear is misunderstanding - where from? For what reason? How to fight it? Where to escape it?
Ready-made has already sharpened our attention toward beauty of everyday things. Thus we get a chance to crystallize the meaning of surprising collisions and their threatening power.
Meditation is an affordable way for anyone to gain steady self-examination, where the first step needs concentration of mind on some object. I put forward the objects. What opens to you depends on yourself.
