Notes on Business Lunch

Written in July of 1999, this story is about two characters who work for a character I play in a storytelling game called Chronicle: 99. If you're familiar with roleplaying, that's what I'm talking about. This story is an attempt to both tell a bit about my character and his past through the voices of two other characters who serve him, but it is mostly about the sort of bond that develops between life long friends, and in the case of this story, friends who have been together for about a thousand years. There is a bond here that I'm indirectly describing that is greater than the bond of love between a man and a woman. It's a take on eternal life, the master and servant relationship, and some aspects of the vampire mythos that I found interesting enough to explore.

Which is what this piece really is: and exploration. I'm taking two characters and watching them interact to discover, as the audience discovers, who they both are. Luckily, for me, the piece ended up having some semblance of a theme and message to it, as well as a little character development and ... maybe a little plot as well.
