Notes on Reprimand

Written in July of 1999, this story is both a means to recount the unusual adventures of our group in a game which Denys has so flatteringly called "Waking the Gimp", but also a way to flesh out the character I was playing in that game, Dexter. I like the mood and character conflict present in this piece, as well as the generally shocking ending to this story. What I don't like is the story that Dexter tells his mentor is like a nonsense tale, something that doesn't seem to fit very well, and something that makes sense only to the individuals who partook in the game that the story is meant to expound on. I'd be very interested to hear how non-C99 readers took this story and what they got out of it. For me, it's a character exercise. A means for communicating this character so that another player can play him at the next session.

This was my last shot at acting out Dexter before I had to hand him off to another player. Had to make it interesting. ;)
