Shiatsu: Therapeutic Art of Japan

Shiatsu, which literally translated means 'finger pressure', is a traditional Japanese healing art dating back thousands of years.

Shiatsu promotes health and vitality by balancing the circulation of vital energy which flows throughout the body along pathways, called meridians, connecting the vital organs and influencing not only our physical health but also a person's emotional and mental well being. Imbalances in energy flow may present in different ways - e.g. muscular tightness or joint pain, headache, stress, anxiety, tiredness or chronic illness.

Qi The Shiatsu practitioner applies palm and finger pressure along the meridian lines, dispersing energy from congested areas and summoning it to areas where it is most in need. In addition a blend of massage and gentle stretching techniques are used to release tension from the body and improve suppleness and flexibility.

Shiatsu can be of help with a wide range of health problems and is also an excellent form of preventative medicine, allowing a sense of relaxation, well being and vitality.

Conditions which may be helped with Shiatsu include -

  • Pain - back pain, migraine, headache, toothache.
  • Digestive problems.
  • Stress related - tension, insomnia, anxiety.
  • Physical injuries.
