Mr. Equinox has decided that he is going to take some time to let you know about the various books that are available to enhance your Lynch knowledge. It is interesting to note that there was a drought for many years where books about this great auteur were limited. However, in the past three years the number of David Lynch biographies has more than doubled.

Lynch Biographies:

David Lynch by Michael Chion. This book, from the BFI (if I am not mistaken) is a very comprehensive look at Lynch's film career. It is incredibly well researched, bowever it is not at all a fun read. The problem with Chion's book is that it looks the best out of all the biographies, it is the most complete, and yet it Chion seems to be devoid of a sense of humor. Why then, Equinox asks, is he writing about David Lynch?
David Lynch by Ken Kaleta (A Twayne Film Book). In many ways, this biography reads like a beginner's guide to Lynch. It is simply written, and is nowhere near as well put together as the Chion book. Like Chion, this book falls into the trap of only saluting Lynch, painting him as the ever misunderstood genius, never even hinting that some of the bumps in his road could have been avoided.
Weirdsville USA. This book is the most fun out of all the biographies--it reads like an issue of Bop Magazine in most parts, like US Magazine in all others. Weirdsville is the first to admit that not being the director of Return of the Jedi was an incredible blunder. This biography also suggests that the Palme d' Or for Wild At Heart was more a salute to a career than a salute to an individual film.
The Passion of David Lynch. This biography has not yet been read by the Equinox staff however it is in their posession. It is being saved for the lonely times in Germany.
Lynch on Lynch. Put out by Faber and Faber, this is proving to be the most enjoyable and comprehensive of the books... pushing all the others into the shadows. Faber and Faber are brilliant to have the actual film makers talk about their works rather than a bunch of hacks with a two-bit film degree. And I have nothing against two bit film degrees, why Matthew J. McCue, the CEO of Equinox Ltd. just earned his.
