Gimme Gimme Gimme(a Man After Midnight)

half past twelve
and i'm watching the lateshow
in my flat all alone
how i hate to spend the evening on my own

autumn winds blow
outside the window
as i look around the room
and it makes me so depressed to see the phone

PRECHORUS

there's not a soul out there
no one to hear my prayer

CHORUS

gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
won't somebody help me chase these shadows away
gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
take me through the darkness to the break of the day

movie stars
find the end of the rainbow
get that fortune to win
it's so different from the world i'm living in

tired of tv
i open the window
and i gaze into the night
but there's nothing there to see no one in sight

Victory of love

Waiting for a change in the weather
I'm waiting for a shift in the air,
Could we get it together -- ever --
Hoping for your return
Hoping for your sweet, sweet return

Hello -- is this heaven calling?
Hello -- hello
Is somebody there?
She must be somewhere
And then she says
Hello -- hello -- hello
She's really an angel --
She stands in the sunshine
She's closing here eyes --
She's pulling the strings
She's dreaming a strange dream
Where nothing is grey --
Then she takes me away
And she's pulling the strings
When she's playing with love

She's playing with love, hello -- hello
Counting -- I count every second
And I'm standing
I stand in the rain,
I walk up that lane
Which leads to the sunshine
She stands in the sunshine
She's closing her eyes
Then she takes me away
And she's pulling the strings
When she's playing with love

She's playing with love
Hello -- hello

Forever Young

Let's dance in style,
Let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait,
We're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best
But expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not????
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power
But we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit,
Life is a short trip
The music's for the sad men
Can you imagine when this race is won??
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders,
We're getting in tune
The music's played by the madmen

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever -- and ever

Some are like water
Some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young?
It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever
So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We'll let them come true

Forever young...

Big In Japan

Winter's cityside
Crystal bits of snowflakes
All around my head and in the wind
I had no illusions
That I'd ever find a glimpse
Of summer's heatwaves in your eyes
You did what you did to me
Now it's history I see
Here's my comeback on the road again
Things will happen while they can
I will wait here for my man tonight
It's easy when you're big in Japan

Aah when you're big in Japan-tonight...
Big in Japan-be-tight...
Big in Japan... ooh the eastern sea's so blue
Big in Japan-alright,
Pay! -- Then I'll sleep by your side
Things are easy when you're big in Japan
Oh when you're big in Japan

Neon on my naked skin, passing silhouettes
Of strange illuminated mannequins
Shall I stay here at the zoo
Or should I go and change my point of view
For other ugly scenes
You did what you did to me
Now it's history I see
Here's my comeback on the road again
Things will happen while they can
I will wait here for my man tonight
It's easy when you're big in Japan

Aah when you're big in Japan-tonight...
Big in Japan-be-tight...
Big in Japan... ooh the eastern sea's so blue
Big in Japan-alright, pay!
Then I'll sleep by your side
Things are easy when you're big in Japan

Container Love

40 years he was very lucky,
Was in love with his wife when she suddenly died
3 years of cry and horror made him a lonely man
When friends one day
Went out with him to get him to get him some drinks

Container love, the years have passed, the rainbow shows
He fell in love, not far from death decation grows

He got married with drinks, he started to get into the clubs
He had no money, he drank out empty glasses
Then he cleaned the club--every day and night
Cleaning the club was his profession

Container love, the years have passed ...

Years and years have passed, he was in love with the container
In the backyard of the club, and when the summer begins ...
He slept in the container
Not for control but for love

Container love, the years have passed ...

Kill Your Ideals!

I don't wanna kill myself
I don't wanna kill my fun
I just wanna clean my mind
I just wanna--just more noise

Kill your ideals, NOW!

I don't wanna kill ten soldiers
I don't wanna fool around
I just wanna play with fire
I just wanna annoy someone

Hey little sailors, galactic losers
Sail in the harbour of fate
Kill your ideals, NOW!
Kill your idols, NOW!
Kill your ideas, NOW!

I just wanna smash the mirrors
I just wanna cut the rights
I just wanna ... thirst for knowledge
I just wanna stand on top

Hey little sailors ...

Where The Wild Roses Grow

They call me The Wild Rose
But my name was Elisa Day
Why they call me it I do not know
For my name was Elisa Day

From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
As she stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
They grew down the river, all bloody and wild

When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace
He would be my first man, and with a careful hand
He wiped the tears that ran down my face

CHORUS

On the second day I brought her a flower
She was more beautiful than any woman I'd seen
I said, 'Do you know where the wild roses grow
So sweet and scarlet and free?'

On the second day he came with a single rose
Said: 'Will you give me your loss and your sorrow?'
I nodded my head, as I lied on the bed
He said, 'If I show you the roses will you follow?'

CHORUS

On the third day he took me to the river
He showed me the roses and we kissed
And the last thing I heard was a muttered word
As he stood smiling above me with a rock in his fist

On the last day I took her where the wild roses grow
And she lay on the bank, the wind light as a thief
As I kissed her goodbye, I said, 'All beauty must die'
And lent down and planted a rose between her teeth

CHORUS

Nick Cave

Death Is Not The End

When you're sad and when you're lonely
And you haven't got a friend
Just remember that death is not the end

And all that you held sacred
Falls down and does not mend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end
When you're standing on the crossroads
That you cannot comprehend
Just remember that death is not the end

And all your dreams have vanished
And you don't know what's up the bend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end

When the storm clouds gather round you
And heavy rain descends
Just remember that death is not the end

And there is no-one there to comfort you
With a helping hand to lend
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end

For the tree of life is growing
Where the spirit never dies
And the bright light of salvation
Up in dark and empty skies
When the cities are on fire
With the burning flesh of men
Just remember that death is not the end

And you search in vain to find
Some law-abiding citizen
Just remember that death is not the end

Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end
Not the end, not the end
Just remember that death is not the end

Into My Arms

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms

And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms

But I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candles burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermore

Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms

We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

Pissing the night away

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vadka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the better times

"Oh Danny Boy
Danny Boy..."

I get knocked down
But i get up again
You're never Goin to keep me down

Pissing the night away

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vadka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the better times

"Don't cry for me
Next door neighbour..."

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

We'll be singing
When we're winning

Leaving

Written by Anne Clark and Charlie Morgan

Remember me for what I was
Not as I am now
I'll merge into the shadows
I'll disappear into the rain

Remember me for what I was
Not as you see me now
I'll walk out into tomorrow
I'll melt into the sun

Remember me for what I was
A glance in your direction at the right time
A smile breaking into a crescent moon
A word of reassurance

I'll protect myself
Against the cold lash of tongues and lies
I'll blend in with the crowd
I'll disperse into the stream
I'll fade into the darkness
I'll turn and walk away

Remember me for what I was
As one world breaks in two
I'll follow my own stricts
I'll forge another path

Remember me for what I was
Not what I couldn't be
Remember me for what I was
And shall never be again

Self Destruct

Lyrics by Anne Clark
Music by David Harrow
Additional vocals by Nick Cook

Suicide is an urban disease
Spread by people and places like these
A quick self destruct from the 21st floor
A smell of gas through the kitchen door
A stab in the back from the workers and bosses
They're counting their gains as you count your losses
As you count your losses

Blow the world apart with the press of a button
We all say it shouldn't but we know it will happen
Again and again like the rain and the ark
Onwards forever eternally dark
Eternally dark

The grit in your eye soon enters your heart
And all that was strength is just falling apart
We're jumping from one bed and into another
Searching for something that we'll never discover
Never discover

So we go on breeding - breeding contempt
From all of the repression that this has meant
If the bombs and the fire don't instantly kill
Then the greed from the ashes certainly will
Certainly will

This place is not my place
This place is not yours
We're set on self destruct
For no reason or cause
If the bombs and the fire don't instantly kill
Then the greed from the ashes certainly will
Certainly will

Sleeper In Metropolis

As a sleeper in metropolis
You are insignificance
Dreams become entangled in the system

Environment moves over the sleeper:
Conditioned air
Conditions sedated breathing
The sensation of viscose sheets on naked flesh
Soft and warm
But lonesome in the blackened ocean of night

Confined in the helpless safety of desires and dreams
We fight our insignificance
The harder we fight
The higher the wall

Outside the cancerous city spreads
Like an illness
It's symptoms
In cars that cruise to inevitable destinations
Tailed by the silent spotlights
Of society created paranoia

No alternative could grow
Where love cannot take root
No shadows will replace
The warmth of your contact

Love is dead in metropolis
All contact through glove or partition
What a waste
The City -
A wasting disease

Zombie

Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence caused such silence
Who are we mistaken

But you see it¹s not me,
It¹s not my family
In your head, in your head
They are fighting
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs and their guns
In your head
In your head they are cryin¹*
In your head
Zombie
What¹s in your head, in your head
Zombie

Another mother¹s breakin¹
heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken
He¹s the same old theme since 1916
In your head
In your head, they¹re still fightin¹
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs and their guns
In your head
In your head they are dyin¹

In your head, in your head
Zombie
What¹s in your head, in your head
Zombie

Inbetween Days

Yesterday I got so old
I felt like I could die
Yesterday I got so old
It made me want to cry
Go on go on
Just walk away
Go on go on
Your choice is made
Go on go on
And disappear
Go on go on
Away from here

And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween without you
Without you

Yesterday I got so scared
I shivered like a child
Yesterday away from you
It froze me deep inside
Come back come back
Don't walk away
Come back come back
Come back today
Come back come back
Why can't you see?
Come back come back
Come back to me

And I know I was wrong
When I said it was true
That it couldn't be me and be her
Inbetween without you
Without you

Pictures of You

(click here to download text with layout - 80 KB)

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you
That I almost believe that they're real
I've been living so long with my pictures of you
That I almost believe that the pictures are
All I can feel

Remembering
You standing quiet in the rain
As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in
Holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering
You running soft through the night
You were bigger and brighter and wider than snow
And screamed at the make-believe
Screamed at the sky
And you finally found all your courage
To let it all go

Remembering
You fallen into my arms
Crying for the death of your heart
You were stone white
So delicate
Lost in the cold
You were always so lost in the dark
Remembering
You how you used to be
Slow drowned
You were angels
So much more than everything
Hold for the last time then slip away quietly
Open my eyes
But I never see anything

If only I'd thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I'd thought of the right words
I wouldn't be breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you
But I never hold on to your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true
But always just breaking apart
My pictures of you

There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Like to the falling of a Starre;
Or as the flights of Eagles are;
Or like the fresh springs gaudy hew;
Or silver drops of morning dew;
Or like a wind that chafes the flood;
Or bubbles which on water stood;
Even such is man, whose borrow`d light
Is straight call`d in, and paid to night.

The Wind blowes out; the Bubble dies;
The Spring entomb`d in Autumn lies;
The Dew dries up; the Starre is shot;
The Flight is past; and Man forgot.

Dance or Die

´ Dance or Die

Triumph of insanity
For the angels high above
Fallin' to reality
Read the message in their heads

Life on earth, it will never mean
To give power to the lords
Find yourself in bad company
There might be nothing to adore

Break the rules for the angels cry
Read the message called Dance or Die

Dance or Die

Time Zero

Down by the ruins and rivers of blood
Searching for any survivers
Water is poisoned contaiminate food
The relies of civilisation

Remember the days of fakes and black death
Religion was devil's creation
This time our progress is leading to hell
To the beast of John's Revelation

Don't close your eyes, no sleep till midnight
Don't take this wasted tomorrow
No chance for survivors to dare the last dance
In the eternal nuclear fallout

Noone heard the prophet's cry
Realized the Madness
Mother Earth and human brain
Don't wait till the final collision
Time Zero

dark star

Wandering about in a universe
Back and forth - torn
Strandgoods of the galaxies
Back and forth - torn
Exhausted, starved, yet still a hunter
Hidden, lurking behind some planets
in narrow lanes, in narrow lanes

Dark star you are the light of my night
Dark star won't you be my guide
Dark star why do you run from me
Dark star why don't you kill me

How long ago when I ran into you
Spark discharges - dazzled
Since that moment I've lost my way
Back and forth - dazzled
Exhausted, starved, yet still a hunter
Hidden, lurking behind some planets
"Faster! Faster!"

Moons and planets passing by
Faded through light - blind
Men forged to black mountains
Faded throgh love - blind
Screens may be distorted
Radars may be deaf
Hunting for love, hunting for love

Deine Lakaien

the walk to the moon

Setting out
Restless nation
Beyond the horizons
Lands must be golden
Sister by the hand

Pure heart trusting in
Shining eyes when she looked up at him

Come on let's walk to the moon
Come on let's walk to the moon

Freedom of choice
Triumph of the will
God made his joke keeping still
Signs by the wayside
Leading to nowhere
Winter came bringing hidden despair

Come on...

Hazy shapes
On a endless pain
Illusions of freedom
In nature's game
And the stars hide their lights
You can't see them weep
The air was silent
And they fell asleep

Come on...

Depeche Mode

Blasphemous Rumours

Girl of 16
Whole life ahead of her
Slashed her wrists
Bored with life
Didn't succeed
Thank the lord
For small mercies

Fighting back the tears
Mother reads the note again
16 candles burn in her mind
She takes the blame
It's always the same
She goes down on her knees
And prays

I don't want to start
Any blasphemous rumours
But I think that God's
Got a sick sense of humor
And when I die
I expect to find Him laughing

Girl of 18
Fell in love with everything
Found new life in Jesus Christ
Hit by a car
Ended up
On a life support machine

Summer's day
As she passed away
Birds were singing
In the summer's sky
Then came the rain
And once again
A tear fell
From her mother's eye

I don't want to start
Any blasphemous rumours
But I think that God's
Got a sick sense of humor
And when I die
I expect to find Him laughing

Ssss....

Jolene

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene,
I'm begging of you please don't take my man.
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene,
Please don't take him just because you can.

Your beauty is beyond compare,
With flaming locks of auburn hair,
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green.

Your smile is like a breath of spring,
Your voice is soft like summer rain,
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene.

He talks about you in his sleep.
There's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, Jolene.

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man,
But you don't know what he means to me, Jolene.

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene,
I'm begging of you please don't take my man.
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene,
Please don't take him just because you can.

You could have your choice of men,
But I could never love again.
He's the only one for me, Jolene.

I had to have this talk with you.
My happiness depends on you,
And whatever you decide to do, Jolene.

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene,
I'm begging of you please don't take my man.
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene,
Please don't take him even though you can.
Jolene, Jolene.

Eternal Afflict

San Diego (The Tragical)

Watchin' the wheel as it
Turned down the hill, like you
Turned me down into my
Self-destiny, every kiss means
Pain, pain and secrets to me
Is it permanance that love
Shattered pride?

San diego was a mistake
The sun burns into my face
At six o'clock I awake
Step into this endless race

A man stands there lovely on
The fiels and a rabbit trapped
In the lime light like I walked
Straight into your zombie machine
The rain refreshed the air, like
My old tears reborn on my cheek
Is it permanance that love
Shattered pride?

My hands could touch the sky
A fence, a wall I couldn't walk
Through the door to your
Killing touch, it could be all
Catch in green grass + isolation

San diego nights - remember

Eternal Afflict

Paint It Black

I see a red door and I want it painted black,
No colours anymore I want them to turn black.
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes,
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes.

I see a line of cars and they're all painted black,
With flowers and my love, both never to come back.
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away,
Like a newborn baby it just happens every day.

I look inside my self and see my heart is black,
I see my red door and it's happy painted black.
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts,
It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black.

If I look hard enough into the setting sun,
My love will laugh with me before the morning comes.
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper bleed,
I could not forsee this thing happening to you.

I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes,
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes.

Paint it, paint it, paint it black.

Tragedy [for you]

With that skill that was hers alone
she drove her clutches into me I was dumbfounded
she was hungry, she required me entirely
all that's left is here to remain
it's a dull and cruel pain
that passes the ages unaltered her scent in my heart
I still feel disemboweled
I clearly retain
a planet
the void

the sore in my sole, the mark in my heart, her acid reign
hot sun, blood sun, maybe I should start to run
hot sun, blood sun, maybe I should start to run
the sore in my sole, the mark in my heart, her acid reign

red rover, red rover send David right over

and that voice
that was hers alone
still resounds in me
she left me dislocated
shes devoured me and ditching her enemies in my heart
she's inspired in me an acute sense of treachery
hot sun, blood sun, maybe I should start to run
hot sun, blood sun, maybe I should start to run
I clearly retain
maybe I should start to run
a planet
maybe I should start to run
the void

guts and bloods and needed action stands around
her acid reign

Welcome To Paradize

Hey poor, you don't have to be poor anymore
Jesus is here!
In the name of Jesus (Alleluiah!)
Feel like your life is going nowhere
Ten seconds... Standby
Jesus is the Son of God
Come in Jesus (Alleluiah!)
Oh God I'm a sinner!
I deserve to go to hell (Alleluiah!)

NO SEX UNTIL MARRIAGE!

Oh God I'm a sinner, I deserve to go to hell
The bible said you keep him out in the lie
In the name of Jesus
Jesus is the Son of God
In the name of Jesus (Alleluiah!)
Hey poor, you don't have to be poor anymore
Jesus is here! (Don't tell the devil)
Hey poor, you don't have to be Jesus!

But written in his cells he has got the marks of genius
I'm looking for this man to sell him to other men
To sell him to other men at ten times his price at least
I'm looking for a man who knows the rules of the game
Who's able to forget them to realize my aim
I'm looking for this man to make us rich and famous

One - You lock the target
Two - You bait the line
Three - You slowly spread the net
And four - You catch the man

Queer

hey boy, take a look at me
let me dirty up your mind
I'll strip away your hard veneer
and see what I can find

the queerest of the queer
the strangest of the strange
the coldest of the cool
the lamest of the lame
the numbest of the dumb
I hate to see you here
you choke behind a smile
a fake behind the fear
the queerest of the queer

this is what he pays me for
I'll show you how it's done
you learn to love the pain you feel
like father like son

the queerest of the queer
hide inside your head
the blindest of the blind
the deadest of the dead
you're hungry `cause you starve
while holding back the tears
choking on your smile
a fake behind the fear
the queerest of the queer

I know what's good for you..you can touch me if you want I know you're
dying to..you can touch me if you want I know what's good for you..you
can touch me if you want but you can't stop

the queerest of the queer
the strangest of the strange
the coldest of the cool
the lamest of the lame
the numbest of the dumb
I hate to see you here
you choke behind a smile
a fake behind the fear
the queerest of the queer
the strangest of the strange
the coldest of the cool
you're nothing special here
a fake behind the fear
the queerest of the queer

I know what's good for you
I know you're dying to
I know what's good for you
I bet you're dying to
you can touch me if you want
you can touch me if you want
you can touch me
you can touch me
but you can't stop

November Rain

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same

'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

We've been through this auch a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain

But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away

If we could take the time
to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...
on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time...on my
own
Sometimes I need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...
on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

Your Ghost
(as sung by Kristin Hersh and Michael Stipe)

If I walk down this hallway
Tonight it's too quiet
So I head through the dark
And call you on the phone
Push your old numbers
And let your house ring
Till I wake a ghost

Let him walk down your hallway
It's not this quiet
Slide down your receiver
Sprint across the wire
Follow my number
Slide into my hand

It's the blaze across my nightgown
It's the phone's ring
I think last night
You were driving circles around me
I think last night
You were driving circles around me
I think last night
You were driving circles around me

I can't drink this coffee
Till I put you in my closet
Let him shoot me down
Let him call me off
I take it from his whisper
You're not that tough

It's the blaze across my nightgown
It's the phone's ring

I think last night (You were here last night)
You were driving circles around me
I think last night (You were here last night)
You were driving circles around me
I think last night (You were here last night)
You were driving circles around me
I think last night (You were here last night)
You were driving circles around me

Decades

Here are the young men,
a weight on their shoulders
Here are the young men,
well where have they been?
We knocked on doors
of hell's darker chambers
Pushed to the limits,
we dragged ourselves in
Watched from the wings as
the scenes were replaying
We saw ourselves now as
we never had seen
Portrayal of the traumas and degeneration
The sorrows we suffered
and never were freed
Where have they been (4)

Weary inside, now our hearts
lost forever
Can't replace the fear
or the thrill of the chase
These rituals showed up the door
for our wanderings
Opened and shut, then slammed
in our face
Where have they been (4)

Fatherland

I see houses burning
I'm ashamed
before you close your eyes denyingly
you'd better ask yourself

did I choose something I could regret
did I do something
I should regret

Is this the place I used to call -
Fatherland
Is this the place I used to know -
as Fatherland

the silence is illusion
stay awake
I hear children crying in fear and pain
do cowards ask themselves?

To The Hilt

Music: Engler, Altus
Lyrics: Engler, Buc

Woke up - still in a dream
nothing's the same
can't pronounce my name
I open my mouth
words come out
that make no sense
for a stranger's ear
in a foreign language
in a foreign land
now I'm an alien
on a different planet
it makes it clear - I understand
we are all strangers - in a foreign land

burn the bridges
forge ahead
to the hilt

back home I feel insane
nothing's the same
except for my name
I open my mouth
words come out
that make no sense
for my lover's ear
in my native language
in my native land
I'm still the alien
on a different planet
it makes it clear - I understand
I am a stranger - in my own land

burn the bridges
forge ahead
to the hilt

The Likes Of You And I

Do you ever stop to think from time to time
About the way the world's been left behind
In another place, another time
We could maybe change the way we think
Take the blinkers from our eyes

Do you think that maybe she was not alone
Do you think there's someone out there
Do you think that they might know
And if they don't do you think
They should be told
Cos she's living in a nightmare
Burning out of her control

Take the rope
Take the blindfold from your eyes
Take the rope from around your neck
And the blindfold from your eyes

And you'll never be surprised
When they tell you that they love you
While they're eating you alive

Do you think you have the strength to carry on
Or has the black cat got your tongue
Don't worry now the world will be alright
Cos the land has been here longer
Than the likes of you and I

The Writing on the Wall

The writing's on the subway wall
I'm sorry that I never called
I, I never phoned
or wrote to you
It's silly 'cause
I wanted to

Oh yes, the subway wall
sadly seems to say it all
It's my mistake, I know that now
a bit too late to cry...

You're somewhere else
with someone else
and here am I, all by myself
An empty wall, and empty me
I write the things that should've been

I tell the world how much I care
and miss the one
that isn't there
OH - The writing on the wall
OH - The writing on the wall
OH - The writing on the wall
OH - The writing on the wall....

The writing's on the subway wall
and give or take a year or so
someone will come
and rub it out
delete the words
that hurt my heart

Oh yes, there will remain
a little hurt, a little stain
the memory can still be read
upon the wall
inside my head

OH - The writing on the wall
(right on)
Oh - The writing on the wall
OH - The writing on the wall
(write on)
Oh - The writing on the wall
OH - The writing on the wall....

51st State

Look out of your windows, watch the skies
Read all the instructions with bright blue eyes
Were W.A.S.P.s, proud American sons
We know how to clean our teeth and how to strip down a gun
We're the 51st state of America

Our star-spangled Union Jack flutters so proud
Over the dancing heads of the merry patriotic crowd
Tip your hat to the Yankee conqueror
We've got no reds under the bed with guns under our pillows
We're the 51st state of America

Here in the land of opportunity
Watch US revel in our liberty
You can say what you like
But it doesn't change anything
'Cos the corridors of power
Are an ocean away
We're the 51st state of America

Here Comes The War

Produced and recorded by Niko Bolas
Assiant engineer Dave Buchanan
Mixed by Bob Clearmountian
Mastered by Bob Ludwig

Today, as you listen to this song, another 394,000 children
were born into this world .... they break like waves of
hunger and desire upon these eroded shores .... carrying
the curses of history and a history yet unwritten .... the oil
burns in thick black columns the buzz saws echo through
the forest floor .... they shout give us our fair share,
give us justice ....
.... here comes the war

On a grey morning to the south of here two young men in
makeshift uniforms peer into the misty light .... and
figures dart behind the trees as a snap of rifle rounds
echoes out across the fields ... well they hardly know their
sacred mother tongue .... but they know their duty to defend
the flag hanging limp and bloody above the village church ....
while a thousand miles away in a warehouse complex down by
the river .... young money men play paintball games ....
.... here comes the war

Put out the lights on the age of reason ....

Blow out the candle and tell us another of these great stories ....
the ones about serial killers .... let dreams flow into savage
times .... do you hear the sirens scream across the city.
We've had three hot nights in succession .... the hot season is
here again .... dear lord lead us back into the valley of the
shadow of death ....
.... here comes the war

Did you think we were born in peaceful times?

Faster, faster .... like a whirling dervish spinning round ....
faster, faster .... till the centre cannot hold ... faster, faster ....
You screamed give us liberty or give us death
Now you've got both, what do you want next? ....
.... here comes the war

Put out the lights on the age of reason.

Blue Monday

How does it feel to treat me like you do?
When you've your hands upon me
And told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, How do I feel

Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They'll turn away no more
And I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me
Just how I should feel today

I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn't for your misfortune
I'd be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me how do I feel
Tell me now, how should I feel

Now I stand here waiting...
I thought I told you to leave me
While I walked down to the beach
Tell me how does it feel
When your heart grows cold

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Load up on guns and bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over bored and self assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word

Hello, hello, hello, how low?

I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end

Hello, hello, hello, how low?

And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it was hard to find
Oh well, whatever, nevermind

hello, hello, hello, how low?

With the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My Libido
Yay, a denial

It`s a sin

(Twenty seconds and counting...
... t minus fifteen seconds ...)

When I look back upon my life
It's always with a sense of shame
I've always been the one to blame
For everything I long to do
No matter when or where or who
Has one thing in common, too

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a sin
Everything I've ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to
It's a sin

At school they taught me how to be
So pure in thought and word and deed
They didn't quite succeed
For everything I long to do
No matter when or where or who
Has one thing in common, too

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a sin
Everything I've ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to
It's a sin

Father, forgive me, I tried not to do it
Turned over a new leaf, then tore right through it
Whatever you taught me, I didn't believe it
Father, you fought me, 'cause I didn't care
And I still don't understand

So I look back upon my life
Forever with a sense of shame
I've always been the one to blame
For everything I long to do
No matter when or where or who
Has one thing in common, too

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a sin
Everything I've ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to - it's a sin

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin

(Confiteor Deo omnipotenti vobis fratres, quia peccavi nimis cogitatione,
verbo, opere et omissione, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa)
trans. "I confess to almighty God,
and to you my brothers,
that I have sinned exceedingly
in thought, word, act and omission,
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault"

Suburbia

Lost in the high street, where the dogs run
Roaming suburban boys
Mother's got a hairdo to be done
She says they're too old for toys
Stood by the bus stop with a felt pen
In this suburban hell
And in the distance a police car
To break the suburban spell

Let's take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight
In Suburbia
You can't hide, run with the dogs tonight
In Suburbia

Break a window by the town hall
Listen, the siren screams
There in the distance, like a roll call
Of all the suburban dreams

Let's take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight
In Suburbia
You can't hide, run with the dogs tonight
In Suburbia

I only wanted something else to do but hang around
I only wanted something else to do but hang around
(Hang around)

It's on the front page of the papers
This is their hour of need
Where's a policeman when you need one
To blame the colour TV?

Let's take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight
In Suburbia
You can't hide, run with the dogs tonight
In Suburbia
In Suburbia
In Suburbia

Run with the dogs tonight
You can't hide
(You can't hide)
In Suburbia

West End Girls

Sometimes you're better off dead
There's gun in your hand and it's pointing at your head
You think you're mad, too unstable
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables
In a restaurant in a West End town
Call the police, there's a madman around
Running down underground to a dive bar
In a West End town

In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
West End girls

Too many shadows, whispering voices
Faces on posters, too many choices
If, when, why, what?
How much have you got?
Have you got it, do you get it, if so, how often?
And which do you choose, a hard or soft option?
(How much do you need?)

In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
West End girls
West End girls

(How much do you need?)

In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
Oooh West End town, a dead end world
East End boys, West End Girls
West End girls

You've got a heart of glass or a heart of stone
Just you wait 'till I get you home
We've got no future, we've got no past
Here today, built to last

In every city, in every nation
From Lake Geneva to the Finland station
(How far have you been?)

In a West End town, a dead end world
The East End boys and West End girls
A West End town, a dead end world
East End Boys, West End girls
West End girls

West End girls

West End girls
(How far have you been?)

Girls
East End boys
And West End girls
And West End girls
And West End girls

East End boys
The West End girls
The West End boys
And West End girls

The West End girls
The West End boys
The West End girls

Souls

the sun rises every morning
but why are we so sure
I'm looking out of the window
empires (arise) and fall

we've been so long together
forgotten hopes and pleasure
but when the time is right
we'll open our hearts
and disclose the treasure

so there are you
and here am I
let's realize our dream
the time is right
try to read between the lines

we've been running
over battlefields
from century to century
nothing wrong nothing right
there was no day, there was no night

we took every painful step
life for life and side by side
but finally look around
some are lost and some are found
laß die Erinnerung erwachen

I love you

so here are you
and here am I
let's realize our dream the time is right
I'm still waiting for you

This Is Not a Love Song
(John Lydon/Bill Levene/Martin Atkins)

This is not a love song
This is not a love song
This is not a love song

CHORUS
This is not a love song
This is not a love song
This is not a love song
This is not a love song

Happy to have, not to have not
Big business is very wise
I'm crossing over into
E-enter-prize

Love song
Love song
Love song
Love song

I'm going over to the other side
I'm happy to have not to have not
Big business is very wise
I'm inside free enterprise

I'm adaptable
I'm adaptable

I'm adaptable and I like my new role
I'm getting better and better
And I have a new goal
I'm changing my ways where money applies

CHORUS

Now are you ready to grab the cradle
That tunnel vision-not television
Behind the curtain-out of the cupboard
YOu take the first train-into the big world
Now will I find you-now will you be there

CHORUS

Common People

She came from Greece she had a thirst of knowledge, she studied sculpture at St.
Martin's College, that's where I caught her eyes. She told me that her dad was
loaded, I said « In that case I'll have a run and coca-cola. » She said « fine »
and in thirty seconds time she said « I want to live like common people, I want
to do whatever common people do, I want to sleep with common people like you ».
Well what else could I do? - I said « I'll see what I can do ». I took her to a
supermarket, I don't know why but I had to start it somewhere, so I started
there. I said « Pretend you've got no money », she just laughted and said « Oh
you're so funny ». I said « Yeah? Well I can't see anyone else smiling in here.
Are you sure you want to live like common people, you want to see whatever
common people see, you want to sleep with common people, you want to sleep with
common people like me. » But she didn't understand , she just smile and held my
hand. Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job. Smoke some fags and
play some pool, pretend you never went to school. But still you'll never get it
right 'cos when you're laid in bed at night watching roaches climb the wall if
you called your dad he could stop it all. You'll never live like common people,
you'll never do what common people do, you'll never fail like common people,
you'll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw
because there's nothing else to do. Sing along with the common people, sing
along and it might just get you thru', laugh along with the common people, laugh
along even though they're laughting at you and the stupid things that you do.
Because you think that poor is cool. Like a dog lying in a corner they will bite
you and never warn you. Look out, they'll tear your inside out, 'cos everybody
hates a tourist especially one who thinks it's all such a laugh and the chip
stains and grease will come out in the bath. You will never understand how it
feels to live your life with no meaning or control and with nowhere left to go.
You are amazed that they exist and they burn so bright whilst you can only
wonder why. Rent a flat, etc. I want to live with common people like you, I want
to live with common people like you, etc.

Disco 2000

Well we were born within an hour of each other. Our mothers said we could be
sister and brother. Your name is Deborah, Deborah. It never suited you oh and
they said that when we grew up we'd get married and never split up. We never did
it, altough often I thought of it. Oh Deborah do you recall? Your house was very
small with wood-chip on the wall. When I came around to call you didn't notice
me at all and I said « Lets all meet up in the year 2000. Won't it be strange
when we're all fully grown? Be there 2 o'clock by the fountain down the road ».
I never knew that you'd get married. I would be living down here on my own, on
that damp and lonely Thursday years ago. You were the first girl at school to
get breasts. Martyn said that you were the best. The boys all loved you but I
was a mess. I had to watch then try and get you undressed. We were friends that
was as far as it went. I used to walk you home sometimes but it meant nothing to
you 'cos you were so popular. Ah Deborah do you recall? Your house was very
small with wood-chip on the wall. When I came around to call you didn't notice
me at all and I said « Lets all meet up in the year 2000. Won't it be strange
when we're all fully grown? Be there 2 o'clock by the fountain down the road ».
I never knew that you'd get married. I would be living down here on my own, on
that damp and lonely Thursday years ago. Oh yeah. Ah do you recall. Your house
was very small with wood-chip on the wall. When I came around to call you didn't
notice me at all and I said « Lets all meet up in the year 2000. Won't it be
strange when we're all fully grown? Be there 2 o'clock by the fountain down the
road ». I never knew that you'd get married. I would be living down here on my
own, on that damp and lonely Thursday years ago. Oh what are you doing Sunday
baby? Would you like to come and meet me maybe? You can even bring your baby.
Oh.

Shock Therapy

Hate is a 4-letter word

What has changed me into something I don't know?
Forgotten feelings like I never know
Eyeballs bouncing in a room of blinded me
Careful of feelings I thought I knew me
A man is waiting at the corner screaming at me
Angry hate for myself: the hidden me
A closet of angry words no sight to put them in
Hateful sea of love with no one to put it in
A classic film of yesterday is just today
Once tomorrow, maybe never, I hate me
Bricking myself into the wall wretched sin
Hoping to be by myself, I won't let you in
My product is only second-grade
I hate to discuss what this man has made
Forming in my hands I know it all too well
Staring at the glass I know myself too well
Hate is just a four letter word,
Hate is just a four letter word.

Silke Bischoff

Hold me

A lot of trouble the whole night through
A lot of tears for me and you
We fight like mad dogs
You throw glasses on the wall
I say words I shouldn't say
And you run away
A few days later you're on the phone
You spent the nights with a friend of mine
And you're yearning for me
"It's too late, you've made your choice"
I say with tears in my eyes
So don't call me again

Hold me
Hold me
Hold me
Hold me

When I'm coming home at night
An ambulance is in the street
I'm going up the stairs
The door is open, you're on the floor
A man is coming up to me
Saying "Too late she took an overdose"
I run to you, I kiss your face
I look into your broken eyes
And you whisper in my ear

Hold me
Hold me
Hold me
Hold me
Hold me
Hold me
Hold me
Hold me

An I hold you in my arms
In my arms
In my arms
I hold you in my arms
In my arms
In my arms
And you die in my arms
In my arms
In my arms
I hold you in my arms
In my arms
In my arms
And you die in my arms
Hold me
Hold me
Hold me
Hold me

on the other side

(click here to download text with layout - 30 KB)

Do you remember slow motion times
with little golden stars
I see you tumble in the streets
I hold your hand in the cinema
A piece of heaven in a rotten world
You disappeared in a roaring night
I could die, I cry

On the other side, I'll see you again
On the other side, we'll walk hand in hand

I saw you again with tears in your eyes
My heart beats hard
time doesn't move in a picture
But I can't live in the past

Life is easy
if you don't care about the future
and it's easy to smile,
if you don't care about the truth
I still love you but I've changed myself

On the other side, I'll see you again
On the other side, we'll walk hand in hand

Small and tired

It was a colored, dark, fast year
Too many changes, to many accidents
I've seen the rainbow in your eyes
A long cold winter, I'm so lonely inside
Sometimes I'm the number one in town
Sometimes I'm just a terrible clown
Sometimes I'm a beautiful young god
Sometimes I'm only small and tired

It was a colored, dark, fast year
Too many changes, too many accidents
The future days are lost in the past
I'm on the road again between night and day

Sometimes I'm the number one in town
Sometimes I'm just a terrible clown
Sometimes I'm a beautiful young god
Sometimes I'm only small and tired

Small and tired
Small and tired
Small and tired
Small and tired

Sometimes I'm the number one in town
Sometimes I'm just a terrible clown
Sometimes I'm a beautiful young god
Sometimes I'm only small and tired

Alice

She stays pressed against the wall so
She can see the door
In case the laughing strangers call and
Crush the petals on the floor
Alice in her party dress she
Thanks you kindly so serene she
Needs you like she needs her thanks to
Tell her that the world is clean to
Promise her a definition
Tell her where the rain will fall
Tell her where the sun shines bright and
Tell her she can have it all
Today

Pass the crystal spread the tarot
In illusion comfort lies the
Safest way the straight and narrow
No confusion no surprise
Alice in her party dressed to kill she
Needs you like she needs the pills to
Tell her that the world's okay to
Promise her a definition
Tell her where the rain will fall
Tell her where the sun shines bright and
Tell her she can have it all
Today

The bodies on the naked on the low damp ground in the
Violent vhour to the violent sound and the
Darkness the blinding the eyes that shine and the
Voices and the singing and the line on line
This is the floorshow the clapping hands
Animal flow from the animal glands in the
Violent hour to the violent sound going
round and around and around and

I feel the bite I feel the beat I see the dancing feet
I feel the light I feel the heat I see the new elite
I see the final floorshow I see the western dream
I see the faces glow and I see the bodies steam

See them shimmy see them go
See their painted faces glow
Slow slow quick quick slow
See those pagans go go go go go

This is the floorshow the last ideal it's
Populist got mass appeal the
Old religion redefined for the
Facile futile totally blind

Mundane by day insane at night
pagan playing in the flashing light in the
violent hour to the violent sound going
Round and around and around and around and
bodies on the naked on the low damp ground
In the violent hour to the violent sound and the
Darkeness the blinding the eyes that shine and the
Voices singing line on line

See them shimmy see them go
See their painted faces glow

Never Trust A Klingon

The Klingon bastards fly around
Always ready for some war
They don't care about any rules at all
As long as they can kill some more
Evil barbarians without discipline
Unpredictable death-machine

With their cloaking device they remain invisible
Until the time has come
To appear right ahead of us
And obliterate everyone
If you ever would give them a helping hand
You can be sure they'll chop of the arm
Chorus:
Never ever never trust a Klingon
You will always regret it
Never ever never trust a Klingon
You will never forget it

Repeat chorus

The Sparrows And The Nightingales

How long have you been free
in this world of hate and greed
is it black or is it white
let´s find another compromise
and our future standing still
we´re dancing in the Spotlight
where is the leader who leads me
i´am still waiting
leaving home
and good is on your side
dividing sparrows from the nightingales
watching all the time
dividing water from the burning fire

leave a light on in the night for me
that i can find you remember when we both where young an
reckless and so curious
now you´re hiding from you child
a one day´s drawing
remember that you felt alive somtimes
and good is on your side
dividing cruelty from tenderness
watching all the time
dividing fiction from reality

move in circles walk the line
no human being in sight
calm the wind an calm the seas
lets´s try another kind of peace
who fight´s this holy civil war
a million men in uniform
wo ist der führer der mich führt
ich warte immer noch
leaving home
and good is on your side
dividing presence from the history
watching all the time
dividing deaf men from the listening one

leave a light on......
and good is on your side
dividing soldiers from the fisherman
watching all the time
dividing warships from the ferryboat
