here i am. Have cleaned the garage a little in manner of good, responsible daughter. And my cat's dying. Poor Bailey. Other than that nothing much of note to report. This place changes, eerily, not at all every time I come home. The break and seeing Mom has been refreshing. Very Glad I came. Will be traveling to Dad's for a one-day sidetrip today before I head back down south.
Switchfoot says that living is simple, but life is about to get very interesting for me. Expected 3-roomie moving-into situation with Rachel and Autumn has become 5-roomie situation overnight. Eegads! We're looking for a house... worries about the lack of houses with a month-to-month rent clause creeping in. Ok for them, bad for me, since...
I'm moving to Portland in September!! It's official. Can't wait to go, but will terribly miss my job (really!) and all my wonderful coworkers, as well as, of course, good friends I've met here. I've prayed extensively and believe wholeheartedly that this is the right thing to do. So come September, it's bye bye SoCal. Phone calls have confirmed whole northern branch of family waiting to welcome me with open arms. Mom says now I can actually wear my Portland Trailblazers parka monstrosity from 8th grade. AhhhhH! Shall I bring back the large hair and doorknocker earrings as well? Ahhhhh! Ahhhh! Hahahaha. Portland is a great city. I tried to tell Autumn the other day that I was a little scared about it, but she saw right through me. "No you're not," she laughed. "You're so excited."
CONCERT UPDATE:
`Yeah Yeah Yeahs. What a GREAT show! So glad I went (even though it meant massive tiredness the next day, as I worked a 6-hour opener followed by what turned out to be a 9 and a half hour drive home). White-Stripes-meets-Chrissie Hynde-meets-Runaways formula worked very well for Karen O. and the boys from New York. First time at The Scene. Odd venue, a bit like a giant garage. I guess that's fitting. Anyway, it was a good time. Enjoyed viewing numerous weirdos in the crowd with twotoned Flock of Seagulls-style hair, black lipstick, and chains in strange places. Haha. Rock and roll!
``Pinback. Another great show. Four hours of standing softened by presence of margaritas and Loads of hot indie-rock boys. Lord have mercy. ANd of course the music. Fabulous band! Refreshingly different because they put each song together like it's a painting. Voices are treated like instruments, instruments are treated like layers, and each layer fits together with the rest like it was always meant to be there. Thinking man's music for the average musical joe. That is to say, not crashingly boring and dying from pretentiousness. It figures that I would get majorly into the local music scene when I'm leaving in four months. Ah well, I guess that whole thing about "as soon as you get comfortable God moves you on" thing is proving itself out.
```Cool band of the week: No Knife. My favorite San Diego band right now. Cannot stop assailing eardrums with their albums (one purchased legally, one pirated from new friend who works at a music store!?! Ha.). If I can afford it, I'll be going to the show this Sat. They're opening for some band I've never heard of. "Brush Off" and "Red Bedroom" most excellent songs ever.
Five San Diego Bands I Love, Proving That Last Vol's List Was Somewhat Unfair:
1. No Knife
2. Finch (Temecula, but that's practically SD, right?)
3. Pinback
4. Rocket From the Crypt
5. Switchfoot
What's in my CD player this week? (like you care) Me- "Interstate Love Songs", Me- Going Home Mix #1, Me- Going Home Mix #2, No Knife- "Riot for Romance", Tracy Chapman - "New Beginning", Bruce Hornsby and the Range - "Scenes From the Southside"
Quote of the Week #1: "There can be no deep disappointment where there is not deep love." -Martin Luther King, Jr.
Quote of the Week #2: "Patience with others is Love, Patience with self is Hope, Patience with God is Faith." -Adel Bestavros
