It's Saturday morning and i'm apprehensive. Sitting here wrapped in a blanket because i forgot my favorite sweatshirt in San Diego, i am pondering the weirdness that will take place later today. An old friend is opening a new adult center for the mentally disabled, and just about everyone from my old work will be there. It's going to be interesting seeing all of them again, since it's been at least three years since I've seen most of them. Bittersweet, exciting, messy, nostalgic. But mostly, like I said, weird.
Well, my torrid romantic fling is about to come to an end. I've spent the last week in a permanent state of sleeplessness as we try to cram all the time possible in before he leaves for L.A. Working a six-hour shift at Starbucks on zero sleep is a bit like swimming underwater and trying to yell at the same time. I'm bummed he's leaving, but it's been so fun! So dramatic! So heartbreakingly urgent! Hehe. I try not to think about the leaving part, because you meet someone you really click with and naturally you want to, you know, stick around and see how things come out. But we knew what we were getting ourselves into when we started hanging out so much, so the thing is to just be happy for the time we've spent. And oh, what a blast it's been. :)
The new apartment is coming along splendidly. Rae's got all of this Pottery Barn-esque furniture that are castoffs from her parents, so our living room looks great. It's a bit cramped, as all three of us have too much stuff, but we'll work it out. It's already clear that Autumn and I will be great roomies. We have the same wacked-out goofy sense of humor and just amuse ourselves beautifully. I love it! Although I have to say that living in such close proximity to Santana's has made me very, very bad about eating too many California burritos! My caloric intake has probably quintupled in the last two weeks. You might as well just roll up to the little white board and say, "Hi, I'd like to order a heart attack in a paper wrapper? Thanks." Because that's what you're getting. But mmmmmm! There must be less tasty ways to die! Haha!
Party party party all the time. These last couple weeks have been weeks of many birthdays of friends, and consequently not a few parties. All different too. Darik's surprise party, with everyone talking crazy and laughing and downing the devil's brew. Junior's birthday party, with the laidback barbecue vibe (except for that mad game of Cranium...yaaaaaah!). Sarah's sophisticated soiree... may I have another olive for my martini dahling? Hehe. Good times were had by all.... or, at the very least, by me.
CONCERT UPDATE:
Billy Graham/Kirk Franklin/DCTalk/Salvador recap. Whaaa! Most fun I've had in awhile. Was with awesome folks rockin' out to some awesome gospelly-type jams. SO fun. Laughed all night. Hugged and was hugged by a bunch of strangers. Great time at stadium was followed by great time at Denny's involving buffalo chicken strips and talking about guitars. Does it get any better than that? I don't think so, I don't think so.
Trail of the Dead. ...are coming soon. Yeehaw! Gotta get tix. They're rad eh.
Cool band of the week: Fleetwood Mac. I couldn't afford tickets to their show, which chafes me like a wet diaper, but they're still my band. Other bands fall away, but the Mac always stands firm. Rock on, ancient queens. Follow those who pale in your shadow.
Five Reflections on a 13-day workweek.
Today is my first day off from Starbucks in 13 days. I might have to have a cow, because this is udder madness! Hahahahaha! A few things I have learned in the wake of this very long week:
1. Never, under any circumstances, cover shifts at Kensington Starbucks. Most high maintenance customers I have ever seen. Ever. $10 an hour doesn't begin to cover the downright ickiness of six straight hours of flat-out rudeness.
2. Drinking shots with friends is fun. Espresso shots, that is. "I'll drink you all onto the ceiling! Then I'll scrape you off and do it again sucka!"
3. Who you work with is much more important than when you work. I'll take a 4:30AM opener with someone I love any day over a 9AM shift with someone who can't handle themselves.
4. Venti cup sleeves make great lightsabers.
5. I should try to take more days off.
What's in my CD player this week? (like you care) Fiona Apple- "When the Pawn...", Sixpence- "This Beautiful Mess", Stone Temple Pilots- "No. 4", Counting Crows- "Recovering the Satellites", Sabroso!- "The Afro-Latin Groove", Led Zeppelin- "III"
