Well...uh, so much for the "every week" thing.
Five Cool Things that Happened Since I Last Wrote:
1. I found a place to live (not my car!).*
2. I made plans to hang out with some old friends.
3. Some awesome girls and I started a Bible study.
4. I got a part-time job working for "the man" at Starbucks. Yay!*
5. I got to see Brandon Boyd dressed up like a priest for Halloween. Grin. Is it hot in here all of a sudden?
*more on these further in.
I am starting to freak myself out a little with my music taste. Anyone who knows me well is well aware of my aversion to music that I have affectionately labeled "San Diego music" (aka Blink 182 and clone bands). Lately, however, I have been listening to 92.1 a lot. A LOT. I think it's changing my taste. I find myself...not changing the channel immediately when bands like Something Corporate and Good Charlotte come on. Ok, ok! I don't change the channel at all! In addition to broadening my musical taste (notice the positivity? when other people start liking this kind of music, I respond with muttering something about "turning to the darkside", "falling into Satan's clutches", or simply humming the chorus of "Another One Bites the Dust". But in this case it's me so it's ok.) Listening to this station has even afforded me the opportunity to get to know new and local bands that are "good" even by my snobby standards, like No Knife and The Used. I still can't deal with Blink. At least I remain untainted in that respect. I have, however, managed the heretofore unimaginable feat of simultaneously despising Blink 182 and liking Boxcar Racer. Figure that one out.
So, my new place. It's great. After searching forever for something both liveable and affordable, my new roomie Lisa and I finally found this adorable apartment in adorable Kensington. I'm happy there. :) There's trees out my window, houses that look like they belong in the English countryside, a tiny library up the street, a park, and a feeling of "coming home" that is just wonderful.
...and my new job. Yes, it's true, the daily grind of office jobs, so tedious to restless me, has given way to a different kind of grind. This way I get to hang out and talk to people all day and get mad tips while I'm at it. To be honest, I was just tired of answering the "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" question in every- every!- interview. I'm 23 years old, for crying out loud, how do I know what I'll be doing in 5 years. Starbucks asked me that question and I told them straightfaced, "I want to be a rock star." They thought I was rad for it. Haha! Yes! I figured it was a good fit. :)
