tucking another seed
into the earth ~ waiting
for the oak

measuring rain
the silence
between drops
the same face
mine
all day long
midnight on the back porch
listening
to the glow of his cigar
my eyes
blinking in the night
fireflies
early morning campsite
fog lifting
between us

at her bedside
watching the September sun
slide from her room
the undertaker ~
how closely he studies
my aging face
library's computer ~
she slowly empties the last
card catalogue
work cubicle ~
the supervisor's heels
echoing in the aisle
forecaster
on his way to work
surprised by snow
jack-hammer ~
creases in his face
filling with dust
nine p.m.
the lazy river
softening the city lights
grandma boiling water ~
the sound of raw spaghetti
shaken from its box
window ledge
grandma's mason jar
purpled by years of sunlight
