He was born in Boscobel, Wisconsin and is a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grade School and Campion Jesuit High School. Barnett received a B.A. (History) from U.W. - La Crosse, an M.A. (Library Science) from U.W. - Madison and is currently Assistant Director of McMillan Memorial Library in Wisconsin Rapids.
