The date and location of Sarah Fairchild's birth are not known nor are the names of her parents.

Before marrying Sarah Fairchild, Joseph was married to another Sarah whose maiden name is unknown; she died in 1676. The couple had six children:

• Joseph Whipple, born in 1665, lived but 11 days
• Joseph Whiple, born in 1666
• Margaret Whipple, born in 1668
• Sarah Whipple, born in 1670
• Matthew Whipple, born in 1672
• Mary Whipple, born in 1674

Shortly after the death of Joseph's first wife, he married again, this time to Sarah Fairchild. Joseph and this Sarah had five children:

Joseph died in 1708 or 1709 in Ipswich. Sarah (Fairchild) Whipple died November 18, 1713 in Wenham, Essex County, Massachusetts.
