BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

Nathan and Eliza Deriar

Nathan Deriar was born in Holland, probably no later than the mid-1790's. He emigrated to the United States, settling in western New York state near Lake Erie.
Stephen Deriar was noted as an oar maker in the
1860 census. These oars, made in Pont, Pennsylvania,
are imprinted with the name "S. DERIAR".

Nathan's future wife Eliza was born in New York in 1794 or 1795. Her maiden name is not known.

Nathan and Eliza were probably married about 1816, perhaps in Erie County, New York where their first known child was born. They had at least three sons:

As adults, all three sons lived in Erie County, Pennsylvania.

Nathan Deriar died in 1839.

Eliza apparently remarried at some point as later records refer to her as Eliza Webster. She was living with her son Stephen in 1860 and probably died before 1870.
