The 5th Marines based in An Hoa defended the TAOR dominated by the confluence of two major rivers. The Vu Gia and the Vu Bon. Route 4 runs from Route 1 in the east to the western extremity of the Thuong Duc corridor. An Hoa is surrounded to the north by the mountains of "Charlie Ridge," the mountains of the enemy's Base Area 112 to the west and the Que Sons mountains to the south. The Marines called the plain between the Vu Gia and Vu Bon the ARIZONA. To the east of that is a fertile stretch of enemy infested hamlets and paddies know as Goi Noi Island. |
