Doctor

Call him doc, medic, physician.
He'll make a life or death decision.
Call on him for healing powers.
But, please, don't call him after hours.

Lawyer

Why do some within our culture
think of him as shark or vulture?
Compared to an emulator of Darrow,
these look like minnow or sparrow.

Politician

I don't think a politician
should be compared with a magician.
They both have tricks inside their vest,
but the magician's more honest.

Stock Broker

The market's up, the market's down.
He wears a smile, I wear a frown.
I'll loose my shirt, he'll make money.
He's the broker, I'm the brokee.

Accountant

Debit, credit, balance sheet,
rows and columns, all so neat.
A final audit you must pass, yet.
No time to sit on your asset.

Actuary

It's a fact, and not a fable.
He puts our life spans in a table.
What's the odds that I'll grow older?
That's odd. Why do I now feel colder?

Engineer

Some say engineers are nerdy
This one writes poems that are purdy.
Just because we're analytical,
is no reason to be critical.

Plumber

You fixed the leak, I must confess,
but left the bathroom in a mess.
You'd think you plumbed the depths to China.
Your bill is plumb out of line.Yeah!

Auto Mechanic

All I wanted was a tune up.
But the price was, very soon, up.
You swear that all that work needs doin'.
I swear it's more than bolts you're screwin'.

Used Car Salesman

"Driven on Sundays, to church and back
by an old lady, and that is a fact."
That's what you said, but, don't you remember,
it was used as a taxi from March thru December.

Poet

With other professions, I can't compete,
with an elaborate office suite.
It's not a job, it's just a hobby.
I have a nice chair in the lobby.

A Friend

A friend will share the time you treasure,
leaving you with half a measure.
A friend will share your troubles, too,
leaving less of them for you.

Barbecuing

I've got the stuff to do it right
and fix a culinary delight.
Except, I forgot to thaw the steak out
I think we'd better opt for take-out.

Landscaping

I mow the grass and trim the hedges.
I make the lawn neat at the edges.
I fertilize and spray and preen.
Still, the neighbor's looks more green.

Budgeting

The amount coming in goes in this column here.
The amount to be spent goes in that column there.
It's really quite simple, nothing is left to chance.
The hard part is making both columns balance.

Gardening

I've made a little garden in a corner of the yard
To keep the plants growing, I have to work hard.
Hope they ripen before the weather turns cold.
Those tomatoes must be worth their weight in gold.
