To Do:
- Online activities using the templates of
Web-Based Training.
- Great Scenes. Example:
- In the coach on the way to the Comte de Serizy's estate
in "A Start in Life"
- Constrasts and Oppositions among the Characters. Example:
- Canalis vs. Lucien Rubempre
Canalis has become a popular poet by writing poetry in
the manner of Byron but is completely unpoetic
in his thoughts and actions, whereas Lucien is a complete
failure at poetry but actually has the sentiments and grace
of the poems that he can't write.
Balzac contrasts the two in "Modeste Mignon" when
he has Canalis with his jaded views about art sum
up Lucien's failure:
"A Lucien de Rubempre, poet and cupid, is a phoenix."
- Daniel Arthez (novelist) vs. Finot (journalist)
Literary talent that develops into art
over years of intense cultivation (Daniel Arthez)
vs. the journalists need of an immediate effect and payback (Finot)
(Lost Illusions)
