WALTER WELLMAN - III

The cool thing about Wellman’s cards is the matter-of-fact way in which many of his plump heroines are presented as sexually attractive figures. The plump redhead sitting at the crossroads, for instance, is as openly provocative as her thinner sisters would be in the hands of another artist.

PULP FRICTION

These two cards are from a recent (copyright 1999 - PPC) glossy reprint box of risqué comic postcards entitled "Pulp Friction." The majority of this thirty-two card set is comprised of traditional cheesecake imagery, but four of ‘em feature fuller heroines. Not surprisingly, three of these were by our man Wellman. Two were previously unfamiliar to me (the third, "Sunny Side of Everything," is posted above from its original linen incarnation). Note the cancellation marks still bleeding through on the reprint sidewalk card.
