From Masking Tape Roll To Trinket Box

Ship Box

After creating a number of video tape boxes I had used up a few rolls of wide masking tape. Now I had to decide to either throw them out or come up with a use for them. Well, I kept them and came up with a unique use for them.

Box with Maks

Materials

  • empty roll from wide masking tape
  • cardboard for bottom and lid or styrofoam meat tray
  • lid from a pill bottle
  • glue gun
  • paint
  • something to put on top of the lid

The Lid

  • To make the lid trace around outside of roll and cut out circle.
  • Then trace around inside of roll and cut that circle out.
  • Check to see if smaller circle fits inside the roll.
  • Glue the two circles together.
  • Paint lid and glue something on top of the lid. I had this mask and painted the box to match it. The second box has a sea shell on top to work also as a handle to lift off the lid.

The Box

  • Trace around outside of roll on thick cardboard, corrugated gives it thickness, or styrofoam meat tray. With the styrofoam one the edges don't need to be covered.
  • First of all paint the inside of the empty roll. It is easier to paint when there is no bottom attached yet.
  • Glue cut out circle to one side of roll. This is the bottom.
  • The left box is painted and the one on the right is covered with a wallpaper border.
  • I didn't like the boxes flat on the surface so I glue a lid from a pill bottle underneath to lift it up a little.
