From Car Seat Cover to Wall Hanging

We had bought those bead car seat covers, but they did not last very long and started to fall apart. There were constantly loose beads in the car. So I packed it way in a bag for future use. One day I had this great idea. I disasembled the whole thing and sorted the beads according to color. Then I sat down on the floor and laid out the beads in a pleasing pattern. Once I liked it, I threaded the beads on string and attached a round curtain ring at one end. Then I strung the individual strands on a curtain road which I have hung up on my suspended ceiling and now I have a beautiful wallhanging/room divider.

Mediteranean Style Laundry Room

I've always wanted to try out some different painting techniques, but was afraid. One day I decided to give it a try it in the laundry room in the basement. If it didn't work out, it didn't really matter as it was just the laundry room. Well, it worked out well, and I just love to go and do the laundry in my "mediteranean style" laundry room, especially in the middle of winter.

I ragged the sky with light blue paint on a white background.

On the lower half of the wallI applied brownish paint and then stuck a plastic sheet to it and pulled it away. That gave it a kind of marble look.

Then I painted a darker brown border strip to separate the top half from the bottom.

Creating your own Stencils from Transparency Sheets

I've always been looking for ways to create my own stencils without having to draw them by hand. Then one day I got a sample pack of transparency sheets and I knew just what to do. I went to my graphic programs and looked for my favorite designs that could be translated into stencils. I omitted all the colors and printed the design only in black and white outline form and then used a craft knive to cut out the design. Now I have my own personalized stencils on very sturdy plastic.

This idea works extremely well for text, as the text size can easily be adjusted to the project size.

The design I'm using here is called Kokopelli. Long before Columbus discovered America, ancient Anasazi rock artists were carving cultural scenes into the canyon walls throught the West. Appearing frequently in those ancient petroglyphs was Kokopelli, a symbol of peace, harmony and fertility.

From Winter Boot to Flower Pot

When my daughter's winter boots ripped where the fabric was attached to the rubber part after only a short time of wear I just couldn't throw them out. So they sat around for a while until I could think of a great use for them. One day inspiration hit and I filled the shoes with earth and planted a small plant in each, and I got a couple of the most unusual plant pots.
