Sunday, September 14, 1997 -- A mostly good day

A good gaming group is hard to find. Our group--especially after today--is my number one reason for staying in Charlotte. Azura and I woke up late. As I was clearing the cobwebs out of my head, I realized that we hadn't straightened the apartment yesterday, or gone shopping. That meant we'd have to do it today.

We rushed around, cleaning, and headed to the store.

OK, I realize I don't keep track of my checks very well. That's what phone-balance thingies are for. And I'd done one on friday, so I was pretty sure I knew what my balance was.

I was wrong. Of course, we discovered it at the grocery store. Of course, if I paid with a check, we wouldn't have had a problem, the money was going in soon, so no biggee. But I pay with a debit card, and it checks the current balance. Oh well.

Azura remembered that we had a check, so we headed out to another grocery store, and bot the essentials for gaming. (Basically just the dinner food and POP we'd said we'd have.)

On the way there, she started rambling, like she does when she's upset, and I started brooding, like I do when I am. She asked me about lunch and bus fare and all that, and I cut her head off. I felt immediately bad I'd taken it out on her. I didn't realize how upset I was, and I certainly wasn't mad directly at her.

Well, I was a little bit. See, part of the reason I don't have any money is that she quit her job a couple of weeks ago. I don't blame her for quitting, if the people on the phone really bothered her, but it's not how I would have handled it. Of course, I coupled that with some extra spending at the HAMFest. So I was partly at fault as well.

The good news is, that's the reason my day was only a "Mostly good day". Moose and Squirrel came over, and Squirrel made chicken fajitas. [Yum Yum!] Hawk and Informer came over, and we started making characters for his Five Rings campaign. Eventually our Mage GM showed up.

Well, I haven't played without a character sheet before, but to save time, Carrie had us all just wing it. In one sense it was good, we ignored system mechanics, in another it was awkward, because I didn't know what the hell was going on.

I don't think I'd have known, anyway, if I had a character sheet. Since we were all playing "new" mage characters, Carrie decided to let us learn the system/game the hard way, and well, it's been a lot of fun.

Informer, even told me that she'd play next time (woo hoo!). She and I also got a chance to talk for awhile, about Lysistrata, and how we missed/are angry with her. I'm glad I've seen Lys lately, but something is missing. I wonder sometimes if it was ever there.

We broke the game up around 9 or 10, and went our separate ways. I'm already looking forward to next week's session.
