This is the first year I got more than one kid for Halloween. |
As I told my Aunt yesterday, Halloween is one of my two favourite holidays. The other being April Fool's Day, of course. Well, they are my favourites, but I almost always don't do anything special, except watch the chaos that ensues do to the holiday. It's a pleasant chaos, the kind where most everybody's in on the joke. An interesting feature this year was something I noticed. Something called "Hallelujah" houses. Yeah, I know "King of the Hill" had an episode about it..but I heard it on the radio just before that. See there's one here in Charlotte. I'm not overly surprised, given the general religious atmosphere we have here, but smallmindedness always surprises me a little. I guess I could get on my high horse, and rant, but I won't. I did that yesterday. I happen to like Halloween, and if it's because "I'm a little evil" like my Aunt joking accused me of, or not, I don't care. Azura bought beacoup candy. We must have had 3 or 4 bags of it. I requisitioned one package of "Everlasting Gobstoppers" (If they are everlasting why are they 5 to a package?) and waited for the kids to come. They did, we might have had 10-15 kids, maybe. We started giving out handfuls of candy just so we wouldn't have to eat it later. I was mildly disappointed that some of the kids weren't really in costume..just out begging for candy. I told Azura about it and she had to remind me where we live. See we live in an apartment complex that accepts sort of a co-payment by HUD for certain people. That is, they can get decent apartments at lower rate, for whatever reason. Personally, I think it's a good program, especially since our apartments are much higher quality than some of the ones downtown. Of course that means that 90% of the kids who came by our door probably didn't have the money for much. Some had made good attempts at costume (HI Football Player!) and some had decent face paint (HI Cat!). The only ones that really got on my nerves were the kids (especially the older ones) who didn't even try.
Flipping around the channels we found the obligatory "Rocky Horror Picture Show". Unfortunately they were into the second half already, and we'd missed all our favourite pieces. It was going to start again in a couple of hours, but we forgot and watched something else (Well, I played Riven). RHPS just isn't fun without at least 6 or 7 people who know what's going on.
