DMesh - Poser Morphs

Set I - Male Arm with Vein and Muscle Stress Morphs
The following set of Poser captures illustrates the use of DMesh to create morph target sets for Poser. The DMesh files are available below for downloading, as well as the completed PZ3 file.

Please note that this is mostly a test of using DMesh to create Poser morphable objects, and is not meant to provide a replacement body part for the existing models. The geometry is a fairly dense gridded mesh, and has not been optimized for Poser usage. It is also a single piece, and no joint or bending information has been included. Once these components have been added and tested though, the resulting model will be made available on this site.

Building the Morph objects

The following instructions describe building the final model with the morph targets. You can instead just download the completed PZ3 file below and skip these instructions. They are only provided should you wish to create the object yourself, or should you wish to add your own enhancements to the musculature and vein structure and rebuild the object for your own use.

The original DMesh arm model contained the fully enabled musculature and vein structure as shown in the final image above. This model was then modified to create three new models, which were then used to create the morph target information.

First, the vein layer was disabled within DMesh, and the resulting model was exported to be used as the Muscle morph target (marm-05c.dmz) This model was then converted to the plain arm layout by reducing the scaling factors for the muscle layers (marm-05a.dmz) Finally, this model was used to create the Vein morph targets by re-enabling the Veins layer (marm-05b.dmz)

So basically, three separate models were produced;

  • marm-05a.dmz contains just the basic arm model
  • marm-05b.dmz contains the basic arm model with the veins layer enabled
  • marm-05c.dmz contains the basic arm model with the muscles fully enabled, but the vein layer disabled.
To create the finished pz3 model, the OBJ from the marm-05a.dmz file was imported into an empty scene file. Next, the OBJ from the marm-05b.dmz file was imported as a morph target with the name Veins. Finally, the OBJ from the marm-05c.dmz file was imported as a morph target with the name MuscleStress.

If you now select the object there are two new morphing dials, one for Veins and the second for MuscleStress. This allows either one of the morph target sets to be accessed separately, and so each can be scaled independently of the other.
