Nominex, LogoTech, LexiCo, WordWorks
(Example names for a Free Language Consulting Service)
Let me help you brainstorm:
- New Company Names
- New Product Names
- Anything else having to do with sound and meaning.
Let me help you unleash the power of the English
language.
Let's say that you are trying to name a company.
You have several preliminary names picked out.
You want a name that sounds high tech but not
inflated. You want a name with purely positive connotations.
You want a name that says something about what your
company does or what your core products are.
I can help.
Because of my unique qualifications, as both a computer scientist
and an English language expert, and because of my customized English language database that I've been compiling for many years, I can do sophisticated analyses of sound segments allowing
me to somewhat objectively analyze the following
example considerations:
- denotation
- connotation
- euphony
- phonesthetics
- etymology
I have studied linguistics, specifically sound symbolism, both in
and out of academia. I am aware of the dramatic potential of sound
symbolism to revolutionize the business of naming. I have also studied
Latin, etymology, Indo-European roots, and word-formational
processes.
I have researched and compiled the first ever Dictionary of English Phonesthemes, intended to
be a compendium of all the known sound symbolic units within the English
language.
I have researched and compiled an electronic database of words (my
Logobase). It contains over 30 megabytes of word data and is more
useful than a dictionary because it can be indexed not just by spelling,
but by pronunciation, definition, and even etymology.
I have a creative mind, lots of imagination, and a sense of aesthetics.
Because I'm establishing myself, I'm offering my services for free. All
I ask in return is that I can list you as one of my clients. Please
email
bshisler@hotmail.com with your
specific naming request, and be sure to tell me as much as you can about
what kind of name you want.
Important note: I can do my job much better if you can provide me with an extensive list of prospective names. I have been too busy lately to
About the example names for this service:
- Nominex: Latin root for name, plus high-tech sounding suffix -ex. this would be my top choice.
- LogoTech: Greek root for word, plus Greek root for art, etc.
Sadly, because of the English word logo, this is an unacceptable
choice.
(logotechnics is a real, albeit obscure, English word, the study
of the creation of new words)
- LexiCo: Latin root for word, plus business-denoting
Co, rhymes with Texaco (a minus, as far as I'm concerned).
- WordWorks: Two readily graspable Anglo-Saxon words,
perhaps too readily graspable.
