Kristy Dark was born in the Mayan city of Chichén Itzá in 2500 B.C. Due to a warp in the space/time continuum, she now lives in present-day California.
In addition to her studies as a martial artist and shaman's apprentice, Kristy earned both a B.A. in English Literature and M.B.A. from UCLA. She has written 8 screenplays, one short film script, three novels, numerous stories, and a variety of non-fiction.
Kristy recently enjoyed some success in the 2004 Writer's Digest annual competition. Four of her screenplays received awards in the Screenplay category -- "The Long Count" was awarded 8th Place, and "The Ghost Hunter," "Secession," and "Confessions of a Fallen Angel" were awarded 11th Place, 17th Place, and 32nd Place. Additionally, her story "Lady of the Night" was awarded 60th Place in the Genre Short Story category. This year's Writer's Digest Annual Writing Competition received 17,584 manuscripts in 10 different categories.
In the 2001 Writer's Digest annual contest, Kristy's story "The Last Story" won 3rd Place for Genre Short Story and appeared in WD's special issue, "The Year's Best Writing." This story also made the Bram Stoker Award Preliminary Ballot for 2002. A short film version of "The Last Story" has been filmed and is in post-production.
Kristy's story "Weaver's Spell" was on the Bram Stoker Award Preliminary Ballot for 2001. Her story "Inter-Demons" can be read in Moxie Magazine online, and her story "Descent of the Spirits" appears in the EXTREMES 5: Fantasy and Horror from the Ends of the Earth anthology, edited by Brian A. Hopkins (Lone Wolf Publications).
Other published work includes stories, book reviews, articles, and celebrity interviews in various newspapers, magazines, and ezines -- including a profile of Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves in OYE Magazine.
Kristy especially likes to write mystery and horror, and a number of her screenplays and short stories are in that vein. As a writer, she has heard the confessions of a fallen angel, hunted ghosts in the sugar cane fields of Hawaii, and performed strange rites by candlelight in the Roman catacombs.
Kristy just finished writing a new mystery/suspense novel "MysteryWriter13," which is currently out to agents.
