December 12, 2000
Bike 16 miles incl. 25 mins at HR 150-155.
December 13-17
OK. I can no longer fool myself. I'm sick. I should've known something was wrong last friday. Training too hard? Nope. One of the joys of parenthood and having children at school and at a sitters is catching absolutely everything. Here is a short list of ills I have succumbed to over the years courtesy of my children, their friends, their friends' friends, and so on:
Bubonic plague
Scurvy
Mad Cow Disease
Rickets
Beri Beri
Dutch Elm Disease
We all got sick: a cold/flu thingey coupled with a sinus infection. We all got sick except for Anders/Stuey. This confirms my suspicion that Anders is, in fact, an alien. At night he sheds his human skin and feasts on dryer lint. We all went to the doctor. I asked, "If you can't make us better, can you at least make him sick?"
I slept alot. I ate tylenol like pez. I even watched daytime TV. 5 minutes of Jerry Springer did more to cure me than any antibiotic. The topic, as near as I could come to figuring out, was, "Should lesbians be allowed to ride bicycles?" Please god, just kill me.
I think this will just count as another easy week.
December 18
Run 2 miles
December 19
Bike 10 miles WT incl. 10 mins at HR 140-150. I nearly coughed up a lung. According to the doctor, my chest is clear and have no danger of a repeat performance of pneumonia. I took this happily to heart as I doubled over my bike. WTS. Run 4 miles incl. 3x200m (37,36,35).
December 20
Run 5 miles (3noon, 2pm).WTS. Bike 20 miles WT VG.
December 21
Bike 15 miles WT VG. Who am I kidding? I'm still sick. An icy cold sweat pours out of me when I ride. The only reason I can get my HR above 140bpm is from coughing fits. Oh, and it was -35C this morning...without the wind chill. And I am hopelessly behind in the christmas shopping department. "Christmas present Mary? How about some gum?" Run 6 miles incl. 5x200m (38,35,35,35,35) and 200-400x2 (34,74,35,71). The 400s hurt....I suppose a certain amount of pain is expected but this was different: chest hurting, quads burning....ah, it is good to be back.
December 22
Bike 15 miles WT VG. Feeling a tad better and stretched the 10min. surge into a 15 min. surge. Run 4 miles.
December 23
Bike 40 miles easy. Run 4 miles.
December 24
Run 15 miles.
