A Virtual Walking Tour of Florence, my "home away from home"
Starting from my apartment heading east, our first stop will be at Piazza Santa Croce.
This is the Church of Santa Croce. It houses the tombs of many great renaissance figures, including Michaelangelo Buonarotti, Machiavelli, and Giorgio Vasari. Gallileo Gallilei is also buried here, and there is a fabulous monument to Dante Alighieri. Dante attended school in the adjoining monastery in his boyhood, and the piazza in front of the church once hosted a great game, similar to our soccer. The Medici owned one of the large buldings that still lies on the edge of this piazza today. |

Gate
into the Pazzi Chapel's Courtyard. This leads into the school that Dante
Alighieri attended.

The
Pazzi Chapel is considered "the jewel of the Renaissance."
Designed by Brunelleschi, it is a fine example of architectural style
during that period.
