Schloss Neuschwanstein was built by King Ludwig II in 1869. It inspired the Castle built for Disneyland in Anaheim. King Ludwig was a queer fellow. He fantasized these great fairy-tale castles, and put tons of money into building them. He had little interest in being a King. He was obsessed with Richard Wagner, a popular playwright at the time, and the interior of Schloss Neuschwanstein is adorned with murals that depict scenes from Wagner's many operas. It really was a magnificent site, and some of the interiors of the castle are so sumptuous, you know they were custom-made for royalty!

This was in Oberammargau, a town known for it's fairy tales painted on houses.

As we approach the castle, we can see it in the distance.

The castle peeks out of the lush forest.
