Getting blessed by the Pope . . . seeing the Borghese Gallery, which has been closed to the public for many years . . . touring the private excavation site under St. Peter's Basilica . . . seeing the ruins of ancient Rome . . . visiting the Vatican Museums . . . It was an action-packed five days my group spent in Rome, and I feel as if I missed hardly anything (although I know that's not true!). My favorite part was the last morning I spent in a drained fountain, in front of St. Peter's, watching the Pope speak to a crowd of thousands, in five different languages, welcoming us and offering his blessings.
