ALYSSA CHARLES

Allyssa Charles dosen't get mad,she gets even! The entrepreneur and single mother of twins, inspired by the antics of her ex-husband, some wicked boyfriends and a few slave-driving bosses, created GET EVEN! cards in March 1998. Now with over 200 cards in it's line, the company's making a profit from payback!

PLAYGIRL: WHAT MADE YOU START GET EVEN! CARDS?

Alyssa Charles: I am a card person. I buy cards when something catches my eye, or makes me laugh, even if I don't know who the recipient will be. But there was something issing out there-I couldn't find cards that expressed my true thoughts. So, I came up with the idea to create cards that express the raw truth in a humorous manner. This kind of turned into the concept of revenge.

WHERE DO YOUR IDEAS COME FROM?

I sit down and brainstorm for areas that are sore spots and hot topics. I think of contemporary issues such as plastic surgery, junkies, cross-dressing husbands, prenuptual agreements, deadbeat dads, blood-sucking lawyers, penis pumps and so forth.

WHY ARE SEX AND RELATIONSHIPS GOOD TOPICS FOR GREETING CARDS?

Sex and relationshps are the fuel that keeps people in motion. When someone is hurt in a relationship that hurt never seems to dissipate. Many women know the exact date when they broke up with the love of their life. It never goes away. Sex and relationships hold some of the strongest emotions we experience.

WHAT'S THE MOST UNUSUAL FAN MAIL YOU'VE RECIEVED?

People constantly write me with their best revenge stories. Probubly the most unusual was the guy who was angry at some friends who had asked him to get donuts for them. He picked them up, went home, stuck the donuts on his penis and took Poloraid's. He put the photographs underneith the donuts, so when the donuts were gobbled up, his friends saw the pictures and were suddenly a bit nauseous.

DO YOU HAVE ANY "BAD DATE" HORROR STORIES THAT YOU HAVE USED IN A CARD?

"FIRST IMPRESSION" with the image of a woman stepping out of her door into a big pile of shit was inspired by a bad date. Sometimes people just rub you the wrong way from the beginning! I have another card with a woman looking through a magnifying glass down a guys pants-This was inspired by a date who just didn't measure up! He seemed to be such a big tough man-but certianly not below the belt!

WHAT DO YOU ADVISE COUPLES TO DO TO KEEP ROMANCE IN THEIR RELATIONSHIPS?

Be unpredictable. Women love to be suprised, but so do men. They're totally floored when they see you've made an effort to do something a little out of the ordinary. Also, it's important to make time for romance. Everybody's lives are so hectic in the techno age. To capture romance, you have to designate uninterrupted unselfish time for your partner. Even if your time is brief, capture a moment and make it count.
