A Heart Set Free

    I love the way you speak to me -
    The things you say, from a heart set free.
    You make me feel as tho I'm new:
    And I am content when I'm with you.

    So long together we've seen bad things -
    But the good now shows, it shines and sings.
    I am proud to be the lady of yours -
    The feeling I feel, is one that endures.

    The way you are, surely makes my day -
    From your heart ... that is your way.
    One thing remember: I want you to know...
    Absolute & complete, I love you so.

    And to the Lord,I now pray thus:
    " Please let these feelings stay with us.
    Oh God Almighty, You do not lie,
    Please keep us straight, until we die.
    I know You want to see this too -
    Help us not stumble, and be faithful and true,
    And let us remember, the answer is You."

    'TOKENS'

    "THE SEEDS OF DESTRUCTION ARE EVERYWHERE;
    NUCLEAR WASTE IS PERMEATING THE AIR.

    TOXINS ARE IN THE THINGS WE CONSUME;
    WE MUST BE SWIFT AND MOVE TO THE MOON.

    THERE, WE MAY BE ABLE TO BREATHE AND LIVE;
    WITH ONLY OURSELVES AS TOKENS TO GIVE.

    AND, THE FATHER OF LIGHTS ABODES THERE TOO-
    WITH A PLACE TO WORSHIP, FOR ME AND YOU.

    HERE ON EARTH, THERE ARE EERIE SNIPERS IN OUR TOWERS;
    AND THERE IS NO FOLIAGE LEFT IN OUR GARDEN BOWERS.

    THE WORLD IS GROWING SMALLER, AND MORE VICIOUS
    EVERYDAY,
    PACK YOUR THINGS AND BE QUICK, WE WILL GO TO THE MOON
    TO STAY.

    IF THIS WORLD OF OURS CAN'T GET TOGETHER---
    WE MUST MAKE IT STOP,
    SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT--- WE MUST TAKE A STAND
    OR DROP.

    OUR CREATION WAS ONCE SO FINE AND SERENE;
    IT WAS UNDESECRATED, WONDROUS, AND SUPREME.

    I WONDER IF WE SHOULD WAIT, OR GET OUT OF HERE
    REAL SOON;
    DON'T HESITATE, DECIDE IF WE MUST GO TO THE MOON!

    SHOULD WE STAY WHERE WE ARE, AND STRUGGLE TO LIVE
    WITH ONLY OURSELVES AS SMALL TOKENS TO GIVE?"

    ‘Me & Mine’

    As I lay in slumber, in the arms of the pine,
    I was drowned by images from the pages of time.

    All so conquering & courageous were we---
    Spirited and sharp, my siblings and me.

    Wild were the woodlands where we did roam,
    Meager, yet full, was the place we called “Home.”

    Pop fetched the vittles, and Ma cooked them up,
    Our pockets were empty, but not so our cup!

    We prevailed through the drought and flood,
    Nothing is stronger than the Living Blood. . .

    Together in thickness, and there in the thin,
    What would I not give to be there again?

    And still in the midst of the trees of pine,
    Linger the memories of me, and of mine.

    The wind in the trees carried me ’round
    To far better places than cities or town.

    The unending river approved of our fun,
    And so did the meadows where we did run . . .

    I understand now what I didn’t back then -
    “Peace comes easy --- simplicity’s a friend.”

    Ever so innocent, with no thought of grief;
    Indeed, such happiness was much too brief.

    The years have come, and they have went;
    It was a lovely dream that an angel sent . . .

    Then I awoke, and I knew I’d been shown:
    We were quite wealthy in our humble home.

    I have a dear memory that no one can take,
    And a mighty tree on which no bough will break.

    Again I shall climb . . . up the old pine tree -
    To seize a fond glimpse of my kindred and me . . . .
