A Place In My Heart

We knew each other for years and years

Through joy and laughs and many tears

In our separate worlds we learned to sow

And help our families to grow

We watched each other’s children blossom

And many obstacles were there to toss them

Through each life experience and yet

I watched you as your children’s paths you set

Now they are older, time as flown

Into another era we have blown

Our marriages were about to end

You were there to help me mend

I never knew that over time

You watched me mature to my prime

Over a drink, a glance you did steal

And then all to me was revealed

You looked at me, eyes and heart understanding

And deep within I wanted to sing

You understood all that I am, my friend

You were there for me, until the end

And now you have gone, I think of you

I feel you close, helping me through

Although I could not say good-bye

I promise I will try not to cry

A place in my heart you will always hold

Memories of you held close, never to grow old

For within you I could see

The special person you were to me
