The Imperial label
was started in Auckland in 1994 with the aim of releasing material by RST, Celine, RSW
Lundon and other like-minded sound people.
Loosely administered, the label name was used by a variety of people
including Andrew Moon (RST), Rob Lundon, Marcel Bear (as Empirical) and David Coventry
(Cattle) to bring together under the same name, otherwise independent self-releases.
Most of the early releases were organised by Andrew and featured RST, Celine
and Rob Lundon recordings.
These were produced in very small quantities (50 copies
usually) and sold through Crawlspace Records in Auckland and various mail-order outfits
such as Drunken Fish, Fisheye and Fourth Dimension. A complete discography of
Imperial releases is quite difficult to collate due to the variety of people using the
label name but expect to see something here in the coming months.
In 1996 Rob Lundon took over the running of Imperial and
has since released several 7 inch records and plans a CD or two. For the latest
Imperial low-down go to Rob's site.
