The wind beneath my wings...

Dear Bear,

I know you're having a hard time, but that you'd rather I didn't know about it. Sometimes, you give me hints because you say you like to play with the younger kids because they don't make fun of you. I know it's hard for you sometimes, but I'm working hard to get you the help you deserve.

I called the School District and told them I was requesting a fair hearing, which is sort of like saying, "I'm going to kick your ass and you're going to pay for it." We got back the results from that evaluation in Roseville that you've been working on with Bev. They showed that the school is wrong not to help you more with things. Mommy and Daddy knew that anyhow, but today, I had proof, so I had a meeting with a lady that's your principal's boss and she agreed that they needed to do more for you.

What I can't believe is how all that brainpower in your head has overwhelmed all that body stuff you've been struggling with. You've driven yourself and your parents and teachers to find solutions for you -- to be inspired by you -- so that we help you to get everything you want and need. You are one smart cookie, honey.

Every teacher and adult I've ever met has said what a sweetheart kid you are, too. They honestly have no idea what a lucky mom I am.

Tonight, you watched your sister for me, so I could get dinner on and I know how badly you wanted to go out and run around with the neighborhood kids, but you didn't complain; you watched your sister and tickled her until she giggled.

At dinner, even though you didn't like the rice and chicken, you didn't say anything. You just said you were full and took your bath without being asked because you're a good kid.

So if you ever wonder if I love you or not. Be sure I do. I notice all these things you do because you're a great kid and I'm just the lucky woman you chose to be your mom.

You've overcome so much and you're still this incredibly sweet kid. I know you're going to be great at whatever you choose to do. I love you more than I will ever have words for.

I just want you to know that you're my hero.

Love,
Mommy
