Cherished beatings.
We have now been apart
As long as we were together,
A few days more really.
Now I'm here
A shoulder for you to cry on
And I feel for you.
My heart still has beats for you,
I love you
Not as a lover,
But as a cherished friend.
Though you hurt me once
I wish no hurt on you.
Now, I catch myself
Accepting comfort
From a stranger
Simply because that face
Reminds me of yours.
I can only laugh at myself
I'm prone to acts of stupidity.
I'm good at regret though.
I kick arse at guilt.
And shame is a strength of mine.
I started by thinking "I just don't know what to do with myself"
Stopped in on "Breakfast in Bed"
Said hello to "Wishin' and Hopin'"
And then I got over you
Be happy
Friend
Be joyous
You'll find happiness.
Maybe one day I will too.

If you don't get the song references then you obviously aren't a fan of the great Dusty Springfeild, and not worthy of reading this poem anyway :oÞ. Though admittedly this poem is severly unworthy of mentioning her songs, for they have a greatness far beyond any this poet could wish to achieve.
