FBI visits Papua for ambush investigation
Members of America's Federal Bureau of Invesitgation have visited Papua, formerly
known as Irian Jaya, to question an Indonesian police probe into the ambush killing of
two Americans and an Indonesian in August.
Papua police chief Made Mangku Pastika says the four members of the FBI left
Papua on Sunday after a visit of three or four days.
He says they were investigating the August ambush by unidentified gunmen on a
mountain road leading to the US-owned Freeport copper and gold mine.
The three killed in the ambush were all employees of an international school operated
by Freeport.
Another 12 Freeport employees, mostly Americans, were wounded in the attack.
A senior detective from Jakarta's police headquarters escorted the agents on their visit
to Papua - the second they have made to Papua to monitor the case.
