Indonesian Islamic group denies responsibility for Bali bombing
The leader of the Indonesian Islamic group, Jemaah Islamiah, has denied
responsibility for the bomb blasts on the Indonesian island of Bali that has killed 190
people.
The powerful weekend blasts devastated two packed nightclubs in Kuta Beach on
Sunday, injuring more than 300, 90 of them critically.
Abu Bakar Bashir claims the bombing was fabricated by the United States to justify
putting pressure on Indonesia and weakening Islam.
Mr Bashir has told Radio Australia's Indonesia service that it would have been
impossible for an Islamic group to get the explosives for the bomb.
He says it's not correct for the Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, to point to
Jemaah Islamiah as a suspect group.
However, Mr Bashir says Australia is rembered for its role in the separation of East
Timor.
He says Australians are included among what he describes as the infidels seeking to
destroy Islam.
