Australia's Bali death toll is increasing
The number of Australians confirmed dead in the Bali blasts has risen to 20, almost
200 injured have been returned home for medical treatment
A spokesman for the Australian consulate in Bali, Kirk Coningham says about half of
the fatalities have been identified through their personal possessions. "So we're
looking at a total of 20 and we are fearful that will rise."
He says the number of missing Australians has dropped back to 160: "Teams on the
ground are going through hotels, etc trying to cross reference information that we have
on the individuals."
Mr Coningham says all the injured Australians, including those with burns and broken
bones, have been flown home during the huge around the clock medical relief effort:
"Sixteen of those were critically injured and further 40 were stretcher cases."
Supplies for Bali
In another development, urgently needed medical supplies are being air lifted to Bali
from Western Australia.
Tonnes of supplies donated by Perth residents and businesses were packed onto a
Garuda Airlines flight which had brought another group of shocked and injured
Australians home last night.
Dozens of Red Cross and Salvation Army officers joined government welfare workers
at the airport offering support to victims and their families.
Twelve seriously injured people evacuated from Bali have been transferred to Perth
hospital for medical attention.
