Twenty-one suspected terrorists arrested in Singapore
Meanwhile, 21 suspected terrorists have been arrested in Singapore in connection
with a plot to blow up Australia's High Commission and other targets in the country.
Authorities say some of those detained had undergone military training at al-Qaeda
camps in Afghanistan as well as a camp run by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in
the southern Philippines.
South-east Asia correspondent Peter Lloyd reports:
"The arrests were made last month, but have only just been disclosed. The 21 include
19 people with past or present membership of Jemaah Islamiyah, a militant group with
known links to al-Qaeda. Singapore is already holding 13 people over the bomb plot
under internal security laws that allow for detention without trial. In a statement the
Ministry of Home Affairs said the latest arrests have seriously disrupted the Jemaah
Islamiyah network in Singapore adding there is no known imminent security threat."
