Misfire prevents bombing near Freeport mine
The Indonesian military has blamed separatist rebels for three bombs found under a
bridge near the main base town for the giant Freeport gold and copper mine in Papua
province.
Military chief Major General Mahidin Simbolon says the bombs were found in the
Tembagapura area over the weekend.
One bomb reportedly failed to explode, although its detonator went off.
General Simbolon would not speculate on links with the recent ambush of two buses
carrying teachers and students from the American operated mine's international
school.
Three people were killed and 12 wounded in the attack.
The rebels have denied any connection with the attack.
