Indonesian travel alert
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs has again revised its travel advice for
Indonesia, advising Australians to avoid certain areas like historical and cultural
locations, including the ancient Buddhist temple at Borobodur in Central Java.
In reponse to the terrorist attack in Bali, Australians have already been advised to
leave Indonesia unless on essential business, and to avoid major cities and public
places, including upmarket nightclubs.
Bali issues dominate
Meanwhile, local and international tourism leaders are gathering in Sydney to
examine ways to cope with the reaction to the atrocity.
More than 100 industry chiefs had already planned to discuss the direction of tourism,
before the terrorist attack, but the Chief Executive Officer of the Tourism Task Force,
Christopher Brown, says the Bali situation will now dominate the meeting.
He says there are a number of key issues that need addressing.
"One is how we as a professional community can do something to relieve the suffering
of the victims of the Bali incident and maybe to assist the Balinese community itself."
"Number two is to make sure the correct risk assessment procedures are in place
with security agencies and thirdly it's what the marketing professionals response
should be both domestically and internationally."
