Indonesia jails 14 for flying separatist flags
An Indonesian court in the troubled province of Maluku has jailed 14 men for between
two and five years for raising separatist flags.
The judge sentenced the 14 for raising four flags of the outlawed South Maluku
Republic in the provincial capital Ambon.
The Antara news agency says they are all members of the Maluku Sovereignty Front
pro-independence movement.
The flags were raised on April 25 - the anniversary of the 1950 proclamation of the
South Maluku Republic, a movement that was quickly quashed by the government of
then-president Sukarno.
All defendants say they will appeal.
