Police refuse to reveal findings on Teluk Betung blast
JAKARTA (JP): Despite making significant progress in their investigation into
Monday's blast on Jl. Teluk Betung, Central Jakarta, the police said on Wednesday
that they would not reveal their findings until the investigation was complete.
"We are still gathering more data and we will not make it (the finding) public until it's
complete to prevent misunderstanding," said Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Makbul
Padmanagara.
The remark came after the police gave contradictinginformation about the grenade
blast. National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar said that the grenade was aimed at a
house belonging to the U.S. Embassy before it prematurely went off, while Makbul
said it was too early to say that the attackers planned to toss the grenade at the
building.
The police are currently questioning three suspects, namely Yusuf G. Taul, 26, the
driver of the van, Hasan Nahumaruri, 22, and Rian Lestaluhu, 28. The police are also
trying to trace the whereabouts of Lili and Taita, two attackers who managed to
fleethe site after the blast.
