LOMBOK: Muslims attack each other over religion
JAKARTA - Muslims have attacked each other on the Indonesian island of Lombok
amid tensions over differing forms of the religion.
Mobs damaged eight houses and a mosque belonging to members of the Islam
Jama'ah sect over the weekend but there were no casualties. The mob deemed the
sect to be practising a deviant form of Islam.
The attack came despite efforts by local police and administration to calm the local
population through a meeting with its religious and civic leaders.
It was the second attack on alleged deviant Muslim sects. Mobs attacked Ahmadiyah
sect members earlier this month.
The Ahmadiyah community is said to refuse to associate with other Muslims. --The
