Updating Web Site

The Method described here will make use of the File Manager to see if there are any files updated since files.txt was last saved. 

files.txt contains a list of the files that can be copied directly into the Geocities upload dialog as needed.  Even though the filename is included, you will have to select the filename to let Geocities now which file you want in the folder.  Since a second level of folders is more difficult to do, we will only be putting files in as one level, meaning no additional directories or sub-directories.  So the club site has a very simple directory structure.

Steps in updating

1. Use keyword shortcut "somnats:d" to bring up local disk version
     i.e. C:\bk1\d\clubs\somnats\program-2007-2008.htm
2. Change file to files.text and get into update (Ctrl+U)
3. Remove filename in browser leaving only directory, and bring that up in File Manager (see picture)
4. Sort by last updated, if there is anything after files.txt then you have updates and should continue
5. Copy each newer file from the corresponding line in file.txt and paste it into the Google upload manager.
6. When you have all of the updated files entered, hit "update Geocities"
7. Then save the files.txt on you system so it has the latest update date, (it does not get copied to Geocities).
8. Test with the "somnats:" keyword shortcut, you will have to use Ctrl+F5 to refresh the page ignoring the cache so you can make sure site has been update.
     i.e. http://www.oocities.org/somersetnaturalists/program-2007-2008.htm
9. Exit out of update, File Manager, and possibly browser.
