Lopburi |
| Lopburi is an interesting little town that has ancient ruins scattered all over the place! Some of the buildings are from the Angkor period, while others are from the rule of King Narai. There`s a bit of everything here, as Lopburi has been a city of some importance, albeit often marginal, for eleven centuries or so. |

The first thing you notice about Lopburi is that there are loads of ruins in various states of disrepair. Then you notice the monkeys. They hang around all over town, sometimes making trouble and sometimes just frolicking on the ancient temples. |

Some of the monkeys seem to have gone in search of greener pastures, and can be found wandering about town. A lot of the shop owners own slingshots, and you soon understand why. These monkeys are not exactly shy. One jumped on Ryota`s back as we were strolling around! |

These are some of the monkeys playing about temple ruins downtown, and some other monkeys amusing themselves with window shopping. |

This is an example of some of the beautiful ruins about town. These photos are taken from the Ratana Mahathat complex. |

Wat Phra Sam Yot is located right in the heart of downtown. |

But these temples are also in the middle of the downtown. Wat Kaek is surrounded by constant traffic, and another temple lies centimetres from the train station. |
