Day Two

Friday September 7th, 2001

A fairly quiet day of film going. Went into work and anxiously anticipated my "vacation". Only two films on the schedule for today How's Your News and a Midnight Madness entry VERSUS.

The cold is beginning to kick in and I decided after the 9pm show to pass on the Midnight Madness, handing off my ticket to friends who can hopefully use it or pass it on.

Okay on with the review of the film...

Title: How's Your News
Director: Arthur Bradford
Running Time: 90 min
Country: USA
Internet Movie Database Entry

A feel good documentary about a group of a disabled adults who embark on a cross country tour of America in a beatup RV, conducting man-on-the-street interviews along the way.

Director Arthur Bradford who had worked with the subjects over a number of years as a counsellor at the camp where they met, loving films his subjects managing to avoid making the film feel exploitative. Bradford ensures that the audience is given ample opportunity to get to know the reports as individuals.

The interviews themselves often make for some entertaining laughs as either the reporter or the interviewee have their own personal agenda. Take Ronnie Simeonson's personal obsession with actor Chad Everret. Rarely does Ronnie allow a subject to get away without asking whether or not they have met Chad Everret.

Bradford as well as the entire ensemble cast was in attendance at the screening and obviously enjoyed their celebrity. A sing-along of the theme song of the How's Your News group was a bit much during the Q&A, but the crowd ate it up.

I may actually have to create a new rating category for this film. Looking over my existing choices, nothing really suits this film.

Feel Good Film -- An enjoyable film that leaves you with warm fuzzies and restores your faith in humanity.
